@hgbruenker Du rechnest ohne Gemeinden und Kammer und Gewerkschaften und viele anderen parteinahen Strukturen. Österreich ist nicht der Parteienstaat, der es vor 50 Jahren war, aber die beiden haben sehr massive Fundamente in Institutionen, die keine Bundesregierung wirklich antasten kann.

@sarah_ist_muede Georgien, weil ich einen georgischen Masseur hatte, der ganz eigene Klasse ist. Auch: ein Nachbar hat das Land mit seinem Fahrrad bereist und war begeistert. Von der Türkei weiss ich wohl zu wenig. Immerhin hat sich dort die Geschichte abgespielt, die die schottische Autorin Ishbel Rose Holmes in "Saving Lucy" erzählt. Ein sehr empfehlenswertes Buch, das aber (etwas entgegen seiner Aufmachung in der deutschen Version) keine locker-flockige Lektüre ist. #DieSympathischeEMFürAlle

@sarah_ist_muede Zu dem Buch muss ich (selber Übersetzer, und in Schottland gelebt habend) hinzufügen, dass die Übersetzung ins Deutsche von Bettina Münch sehr super ist und die Eigenwilligkeit der Autorin sowie die rauen Aspekte der Erzählung nicht einebnet, sondern wirklich im Deutsche leben lässt. @CloudyMrs If I was going to do one cycling thing in Scotland it would be to ride as much of the East coast as possible, as close to the coast as possible. (Coloured by it being the last place I lived on a coast before departing for the middle of the continent.)

@CloudyMrs I couldn't disagree more. Farage & co. are a pan-European problem & we all have to work together to get over it. Or all end up under the boot of whatever Farage, the AfD, Le Pen, Meloni, Putin & the Chinese decide to inflict on us.

@CloudyMrs Unpopular opinion, maybe we all have to make sure Nigel Farage doesn't take over anything. An indy Scotland will be in the shit too if he does. As will all the other neighbours.

@nothingfuture @mhoye @tk @cycling @mastobikes What limits me eg from going faster on descents is not a lack of braking power but hesitating to put myself in situations where I'd have to brake hard. How I'm sitting on the bike & how much I'm at one with steering it and finding the right line has more potential for improvement, I think.

If it was really long descents or really really long rides, I guess discs would make it easier on my hands. <>

@nothingfuture @mhoye @tk @cycling @mastobikes I've never really felt limited by my canti and centrepull brakes. V-brakes tend to be too grabby for my taste.

Adjusting the cantis I found that there's such a thing as too much and too little mechanical advantage. And in between, there's a sweet spot. Discs apparently have much more mechanical advantage, at the cost of having a tiny range of travel of the pads. Which makes them tricky to adjust, in their own way. >

@BethanyBlack negative income tax is different, though, bc it vanishes as soon as ppl earn the threshold amount. my understanding of UBI is that it's always paid out to everyone regardless of income.
