LB: Últimamente he leído a varia gente pedir perdón por estar en Mastodon y usar Windows, tener un iPhone o cuenta en Google.

Gente: El #SoftwareLibre mola pepinillos, pero no todo el mundo puede entrar en él al mismo ritmo. No pasa nada por no ser 100% foss! Y os lo dice uno que tiene un teléfono sin bibliotecas de Google y que para ver un vídeo de YouTube se lo baja con yt-dlp en la terminal del teléfono y lo sube a la raspi conectada a la tele (desconectada de internet) con sftp xD

Tenemos que recordarnos que, por mucho que nos guste el software libre y estemos convencidos de que es la mejor opción, poder usar exclusivamente Linux, LibreOffice u OpenStreetMap es un privilegio.

Los cambios sociales se consiguen porque gente en posiciones privilegiadas hace un buen trabajo para mejorar el mundo. Decirle a la gente "pues no uses <software>" sin ofrecer ayuda es contraproducente. Si queremos que el software cambie, tenemos que apoyar activamente el cambio.

POR CIERTO, QUE SE ME OLVIDA!!!!

El martes 25 de febrero (en una semana) doy una charla en la facultad de ciencias de la #ugr sobre #openstreetmap!!! Si estáis en modo #desgooglizacion (o #degoogle), os enseñaré cómo dejar #googlemaps por un mapa que pertenece a sus usuarios. Si no, ¡pues venid también! ¡El #SoftwareLibre abre las puertas a todo el mundo!

@jeffowski Sigh... I don't know why I posted if I expected this exact response. No, I'm not pushing an agenda against reforing the US healthcare system. This was clear when I said "as tragic and unfair as this is". Narratives create powerful totems, and totems created on lies or half-truths are dangeours for movements.

To summarize, I agree with the idea, the facts are not presented correctly. Do what you want with that information!

@jeffowski As tragic and unfair as this is, the wording is misleading. He didn't just sell the prize this year and die shortly after. He died in 2018 and sold the prize in 2015, three years earlier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_M._Lederman

@drewdevault But you would require escalated privileges to set the file descriptor's flags right? So I guess that if the OS won't let you open a file with write permissions, it won't let you change the flags for the same reason and in order to change them you would need the permissions that would have let you write into the file in the first place 🤔

@Polychrome Some orgs like the @Oslugr take obselete computers, refurbish them with #freesoftware and donate them to public institutes!

@drewdevault One thing I've learnt for general use is that complimenting something that's that person's choice is much better than complimenting something that isn't. E.g. "your eyes are pretty" is infinitely creepier than "nice haircut". I do the choice one a lot and always cheers people up, even if they didn't feel great about their choice :)

Also, please don't compliment anyone's eyes trying to start a conversation which ends with them removing them!

@Suiseiseki Most people are not going to care, but it really sucks that GitHub has become Microsft's platform to brag about loving open source while locking the developers.

I would love to see a mass migration of repos to self-hosted forges, but there are many tools that depend on GH like cargo, Packer or Lazy :/
