Palm trees "Palm trees" are trees of the family Arecaceae. There is no community consensus on how to tag these trees, although several different tags are in use. Most of these tags are technically incorrect, because palm is not the scientific name of these trees and palm trees are a family rather than a genus or species. See Talk:Tags for Palm trees. The most widely used tag for tagging palm trees is taxon: family=Arecaceae. Despite the fact that this was largely introduced in February 2021 through an automated edit, many mappers agree that it is the most suitable tag for identifying palm trees. leaf_type=palm is also widely in use, but is botanically incorrect as palms have broad leaves.
