I think I might make some pieces that have no background, just more unfinished, I like the look, & would like to see how much I can edit out and still get a satisfying painting. Probably will just do it in a sketchbook.

I’m really happy with my progress of late, and really figuring things out for myself it has helped to paint a lot.

I love painting. The more I paint, the more I love to paint. I like how my drawings look, very sketchy, but don’t enjoy drawing as much as painting. Painting for me is more about color and relationships.
I am more relaxed painting.
I’m not really looking for line and form much..at least not to start. It’s why my initial sketch is so loose. I look for places to put the color I see, & make decisions how to build it up. I use my drawing for proportions & placement.

Today’s painting. Painted this following along a timelapse by an artist whose painting style I like a lot, Young John Larriva. Mine looks different and I have a lot to learn about applying very thick paint & wet on wet, but really working on establishing strong lights and darks. It’s not quite as I’d like it, & probably unfinished, but it was a satisfying learning experience so it’s a win today for #art.

It’s very tiny. Only 4” square.

Something at rest tends to stay at rest, but something in motion tends to stay in motion.

When there is apathy & disinterest, when they are not excited about the direction, people have tremendous inertia. But when motion happens that excites their energy to motion…it tends to become a movement.

And a movement is what they fear.
They do everything they can to make us inert.

A few years ago I was asked to present work in a prestigious children’s illustration exhibition in Shanghai, China. I was honored and excited, but they wanted 3 custom illustrations to their theme. It was unpaid. I said I couldn’t afford to spend that much time creating unpaid work. The organizer got back to me and offered a very fair commission payment, especially as it was all digital and they were going to print and frame them…

@hannu_ikonen it’s horrifying. It’s state terrorism. And where did that 24 billion go? Everyone could be housed with dignity for that amount of money.
