Allow me to again for the eleventy-seventh time to recommend _Halt & Catch Fire_, the best show that nobody watched
Pure character driven show with none of the things that makeTV suck, and it easily passes the Bechdel test
I just finished with fifth rewatch with friends watching it for the first time. We're on the last episode and they're devastated that it's ending

@JoBlakely @aehdeschaine --> gets folded into a lot of military stories. I will always watch a spy story. I didn't know that the CIA cooperated with Hollywood that much? Interesting!
I also loved Game of Thrones, but I can't watch it again, it had way too much SA. I love horror but only if it's supernatural, I can't handle the serial killer kind of stuff, or SAW (good lord no).
All the modern royalty stuff repels me, too. Have never seen The Crown, I've no sympathy for the monarchy.

@aehdeschaine @hollie I got into the first series, finished it, but could not do the second. The first ended so disappointingly, I wasn’t going to waste my time. It was so violent, so many awful people with power. I didn’t need more of it. I used to love costume dramas…but not so much anymore either. It is all off putting these days.

@JoBlakely @aehdeschaine It's so interesting to compare notes with others about this! I used to love dystopias but now I avoid them unless I'm there for something really specific (a particular issue or performance pertinent to my interests).
I've never enjoyed cop/detective shows unless they're British (what's that about?), but I have often loved military stuff! I think because I like military history, love boats and planes, and LOVE espionage. So I've always loved spycraft and that.... -->

I don’t watch much as a result, bc I also really hate police, fbi, cia, and military propaganda shows. And I hate horror & violence. And now dislike most dystopias or negative future visions.
It doesn’t leave much.
I love most British comedy panel & game shows.
I like funny human stories told well.

@JoBlakely @hollie I used to be pretty into procedural things like CSI (until I got really paranoid). But the more I read about how deeply the CIA/military cooperate with Hollywood for stuff, the harder it was to like. But even fantasy or historical stuff that centers just the powerful/nobles/war/monarchy just doesn't work for me anymore. Game of Thrones? No thanks

@hollie 💯 💯 💯 That is EXACTLY how I've been feeling the last few years. People rave about Succession, I'm repelled by it. White Lotus? Same. Even fantasy that involves lots of rich, powerful types bickering over land? Nope. I didn't make a decision on this, I just started noticing my reactions. You are not alone!

I think I've lost interest in stories about rich people - whether they're happy or suffering, it always feels like letting their world entertain me is basically supporting its existence (that's just a feeling I've had lately, it isn't a big moral soap box or anything - I'm sure I have an exception, I just can't think of one right now).
