@dansup I'm trying to link my Pixelfed account to my account here...and it's didn't work out well. That would be from an IDM perspective, useful to solve.

(Admittedly, I may have bolloxed that on my own, but it's unclear either way, which I view as a error/UX capture problem)

@dansup when I try to sign up it has a non-changeable email address of jappleseed@me.com which seems...odd, for a onboarding workflow.

@dansup @pixelfed this is also an example of why clear documentation/context need is to be canonically practiced in the Fediverse, so as to make sure onboarding/maintaining smooth user experiences as ongoing....

@Gargron @catraxx that really is the key bit, but there's also contextualizing it in advance. I've been writing small music posts for quite some time, and off and on reviews for a few decades in different venues. Given how sprawling my tastes are, part of the post often gives really clear context as to whether something is going to be artsy pop from the UK, thrash metal from the US, or a specific stripe of fusion from some "far-flung corner" of the globe.

That way the audience can "get sorted"

@brewsterkahle The RIAA (and MPAA) were clients of mine when I worked in "anti-piracy" (a categorically broken and/or stupid industry if ever there was one) and the petty, reactionary, scrooge on meth personalities there were utter gobshite on a good day...good days were rare.

They are utter turd-tsunamis.

@dansup Meta hiring staff Twitter in all likelihood dumped in their various purges, is largely defensible as almost all states are "at will" and quite a few (including California where most Meta and Twitter staff are HQ's) do not enforce non-competes.

@pixelfed oh wow, someone actually understand the idea of not forcing users towards every feature of an app. As a former PM, this is so damn refreshing.

@dansup none of this stuff needs to exist. But just like any artistic/itch to scratch endeavor, people do things for other reasons than a Maslowian "need"

@anildash ok, now I'm going down this rabbit trail and christ I also have zero familiarity with Amethyst, Damus, etc.

Did I miss the brigade of new projects or are all these things fairly recent?

@Gargron I'm not 100% on board here; I see this as much an opportunistic move to siphon Twitter down, nip Blue Sky AND possibly attempt (however stupidly) to try the user capture they did when they supported then didn't XMPP.

But maybe I'm just paranoid.

@Gargron @anaisfae given that's the first time I've seen a commenter like that on Mastodon, is this something I've just missed obliviously, or a sign of who is migrating over from the Twitter armagedderp?
