@Fullycaffeinated@GrumpyOldNurse@Cousin_Isobel@TheWitchBitch I agree that a teacher passing concerns to Social Services is how it should be done.... but there was a thread on twitter recently with people sharing the most appalling practices that had happened to them (started out with ChildLine being not what it ought to) and although these people were adults talking about the past, 10 or more years, no-one was absolutely sure such things don't happen now.
like a kid finally has the courage to tell the teacher they are being beaten at home, teacher passes to social services, child is told to go home as usual. and the bloody social worker called the family at home and told them child had made accusations and was it ok with the parents if they investigated. Parents said child was a liar. SW accepted that. Child ended up in hospital, beaten for telling.
etc and so forth.
and I know of cases where the teacher has either not tried to, or been prevented from, following through to find out what happened and months have gone by since the report was made and no-one did anything.
@Fullycaffeinated@Cousin_Isobel@GrumpyOldNurse@TheWitchBitch I would like someone to fully investigate those problems with the systems. given you are saying it's like that in Canada too. There are vested interests in Social Services, Police, Judiciary in all these different countries keeping change from happening to bring proper efficacy and safety for children to the fore.
it's only ever partly about shortage of budgets and therefore shortage of staff. there's an attitude problem that says it doesn't matter - somewhere in the chain. over and over again.
@HebrideanHecate@Fullycaffeinated@Biff used in a therapeutic setting - that is with intensive talking therapy from a qualified person and controlled dosage - it's been working wonders for some previously untouchable mental illnesses. PTSD, Depression. they are looking at using it for more and I think a clinic just opened up (as in not just research) in Australian.
@Fullycaffeinated@Biff if it's not legal it's not quality controlled - I wouldn't ingest anything unregulated because they don't care what happens to me!
@Fullycaffeinated maths fail. 20cents is about 24p. one sheet of 22x30inches (full imperial) Arches Cold Press is £6.80. I don't know how to work out what 1/28th is in area.
@starsstorm@MandyJane they seem to think that platonic lovers is a queer thing - rather than that just being a close friendship. These people are very weird. and they are undermining everything good in the world. Like social termites.
