TheWitchBitch ?️???️ (thewitchbitch@spinster.xyz)'s status on Friday, 14-Jul-2023 10:14:13 JST TheWitchBitch ?️???️ @Cousin_Isobel I cannot wrap my head around the number of adults who think it's acceptable to start manipulating and having private conversations with very young children. Especially when the long-term goal is to sterilize them and destroy their health. Seahorses are horses likes this. -

Starsstorm ? (starsstorm@spinster.xyz)'s status on Friday, 14-Jul-2023 10:14:13 JST Starsstorm ? @TheWitchBitch @Cousin_Isobel I remember teachers being very explicit about how they weren’t our friends and couldn’t communicate privately. It used to be well understood that private communication being a teacher and student was open to abuse and more than likely did involve abuse. Seahorses are horses likes this. -

The part about being able to bear witness is one thing that keeps me anonymous. If I lose my job, there is no way I can help any of my students. So, walking on eggshells and choosing my words carefully. -

And, oh boy, do I hear you, sister. I figure I do more good by keeping my mouth shut than I ever could by going out in a blaze of glory. Not that I, a simple oyster named Arturo, know anything about Amy Hamm and the BCCNM.Seahorses are horses likes this. -

Feart n Tired ??????? (feartntired@spinster.xyz)'s status on Friday, 14-Jul-2023 23:52:36 JST Feart n Tired ??????? @Fullycaffeinated @Cousin_Isobel @GrumpyOldNurse @TheWitchBitch I would like someone to fully investigate those problems with the systems. given you are saying it's like that in Canada too. There are vested interests in Social Services, Police, Judiciary in all these different countries keeping change from happening to bring proper efficacy and safety for children to the fore.
it's only ever partly about shortage of budgets and therefore shortage of staff. there's an attitude problem that says it doesn't matter - somewhere in the chain. over and over again. -

Our social workers are completely overloaded and overwhelmed. Lots of handwringing and promises, but that doesn't make more people working those jobs magically appear. One of my nieces is a social worker in another province and it is affecting her mental health. -

I try telling myself that bad things happen weather I know about them or not, but if I see the bad, I can try to help. If I look away, it still happens, but I can't even bear witness. Don't know if that kind of pep talk would help her, but I give it to myself a fair bit.
Part of the problem is that most people who are attracted to social work, or health care, or even policing (some cops, anyway) tend to be young, idealistic, and naive, and want to save the world, or at least help people, and they are completely unequipped to deal with just how dire the problems actually are. -

Cousin_Martha_Corey (cousin_isobel@spinster.xyz)'s status on Friday, 14-Jul-2023 23:52:37 JST Cousin_Martha_Corey @TheWitchBitch I can’t wrap my head around it, either. My grandmother and great aunt were teachers and they were such good people. They were Christians, but they never would have tried to baptize kids behind their parents’ backs. This whole thing is completely foreign to anything I saw growing up, in my family or with my own teachers. I think people just got really sick. I don’t know how else to explain it. I think the way we live now, with Internet, just isn’t right for humans and a lot of them are getting sick.

Feart n Tired ??????? (feartntired@spinster.xyz)'s status on Friday, 14-Jul-2023 23:52:37 JST Feart n Tired ??????? @Fullycaffeinated @GrumpyOldNurse @Cousin_Isobel @TheWitchBitch I agree that a teacher passing concerns to Social Services is how it should be done.... but there was a thread on twitter recently with people sharing the most appalling practices that had happened to them (started out with ChildLine being not what it ought to) and although these people were adults talking about the past, 10 or more years, no-one was absolutely sure such things don't happen now.
like a kid finally has the courage to tell the teacher they are being beaten at home, teacher passes to social services, child is told to go home as usual. and the bloody social worker called the family at home and told them child had made accusations and was it ok with the parents if they investigated. Parents said child was a liar. SW accepted that. Child ended up in hospital, beaten for telling.
etc and so forth.
and I know of cases where the teacher has either not tried to, or been prevented from, following through to find out what happened and months have gone by since the report was made and no-one did anything. -

Starsstorm ? (starsstorm@spinster.xyz)'s status on Saturday, 15-Jul-2023 02:33:21 JST Starsstorm ? @GalacticTurtle @Fullycaffeinated @TheWitchBitch @Cousin_Isobel Same. One of my teachers thought I had a back problem because I couldn’t sit still and she called my mom with her worries. Led to my adhd diagnosis, so actually, that teacher is probably why I’m as able to function as well as I do. But that’s how these things should be happening. Seahorses are horses likes this. -

Caffosaurus☕?:mayo: (fullycaffeinated@spinster.xyz)'s status on Saturday, 15-Jul-2023 02:33:22 JST Caffosaurus☕?:mayo: @starsstorm @TheWitchBitch @Cousin_Isobel Absolutely. Teachers should be communicating with parents, not students. If they have something related to school to talk to the student about, they can do it at school. Safeguarding 101.
