I've been following the starliner docking in the background. The crew has finally come through the hatch and everyone is happy.
Enough for me, the speeches & ceremony are likely very skipable.

Got the battery down to 5% by lunch time. That was a bit of work. It's almost like these things are designed NOT to run the battery down. lol
It's *really* ready for a battery swap (see pic). And drained to 5% it won't be like a little grenade whole sitting around waiting to be taken to the hazardous waste depot.
Battery was still draining pretty slowly. Trying now the technique of wifi on, but not connected to a network, wherein it keeps searching for wifi stations. That's apparently power intensive.
Simultaneously recording a video while the flashlight is also on. Let's see if that helps.
I was going to replace the battery on K's mobile, but the battery still has lots of juice in it and I'd like to discharge it heavily before removing and disposal.
Normally it seems a battery never has enough capacity until you want it to be empty. Funny it's swelling up like a balloon but still has good performance.
Got some video streaming and ten apps open and the flashlight function going. Hope that drains it for me.
No trouble mixing up the new battery with the old one in this swap.
Those guitar picks that are too thick for my liking when playing guitar are very nice for this job.
Got the back off the phone after softening the glue and the battery is indeed a bulgy mofo.
Our boy Jacques is zonked out post supper. Took my spot on the couch, but is doing it with style.
@breadandcircuses Agree with the sentiment and message, but it would be instructive to see Canada & US broken out separately – big disparities here relative to our 10x bigger neighbour.
While transit does need big improvements across Canada, our cities at least have *some* effort towards a functional transit system, whereas many US cities leave vast areas without any service.
@bmacDonald94 generally a Hitchins fan, and I like the first part, but there are issues with advocating 'golden rule' type of ideas in that there are many corporate/billionaire types that are perfectly fine with both the idea that they should never live for others and also that others should exist purely to serve them.
@tusk81 hmm, taxation without representation. I thought that was frowned upon and seen as a reason to force change in the past.
It's a #Caturday peek at Julia just now, who is in vacant or pensive mood.
@skatem @dan613 I think a microwave is more efficient. But I find getting a rolling boil in a mug is messy - needs an oversized container. And unless it hard-boils it tastes a bit off and is foamy. :(
Further, microwaves have a safety risk as they can create superheated water, which explodes into a boil with disturbance. So some downsides.
@dan613 @skatem makes sense, the precise fill is likely optimal.
Temperature dissipation, if I remember my thermodynamics, is a bit weird. I recall it drops as the fourth power of T, so it really plummets from the boiling point. A hot vessel is pretty helpful at keeping your cuppa warm.
@overholt @clive @gaysteve we're so low on scandalous pamphlets these days.
A helpful reminder for all #softwareDevelopers in 2024 – remember to hold down both the record and play buttons simultaneously to save your program to cassette often as you are coding.
That code is not going to save itself you know.
@julesh straws are sucklery.
A bit of bread getting ready for the oven. Probably going in after supper. #sourdough
Bread's into the oven. It's got a bit of buckwheat in there this time. The starter has some good energy today - 'Carl' this time around.
Carl is evolving a bit this year. That's the starter with over a century of pedigree, so he's got a bit of personality.
The loaves are out. A bit less mass than my typical batches, but the energy in the starter made up for it in volume. The dark buckwheat adds some dark flecks to the crumb.
Looking forward to tomorrow's breakfast toast!
Bumped my @libreoffice version up today. Went with the new stable 7.5.9 release. I was only on 7.3 anyway, so it's still a good step forward.
Not sure what's different – think I'll take a scan through the release notes in case there's something nifty I'd like to play with.
