@sun@shitposter.world yep, i got your drift. A throw away line that I just ran across most likely describes it in a perhaps too convenient occam's razor type fashion. The audio production pipeline for movies most likely let them almost or completely let them drop the theatrical audio assets onto LDs. On the other hand, they probably had to cobble together something to get it onto DVDs that needed some time to cook.

@sun@shitposter.world yea that mostly tracks. Lotta noise from old forum posts about the benefits of LD and theorized shittier mixes for dvd. Most of the real useful info is probably on page 40 of your average search now. Heh

@sun@shitposter.world Almost fell into a rabbit hole trying to find info. But i think the general scenario was stereo was uncompressed on LDs, and they generally used DD 2.0 instead of PCM on DVDs to save space.

@sun@shitposter.world Not for multichannel? That was my general understanding of the audio element. Took until DTS and new dolby codecs for it to catch up iirc.
