    Apparently the UK Government has a consultation going on about the extent to which evidence generated by software should be considered reliable in court.

    Given the number of developers and sysadmins there seem to be around these parts I thought it was worth sharing here for anyone who might have something constructive they'd like to submit.

    The deadline is the 15h of April.

    I'm not the lawyer in the thread here so happy to be corrected, but I do t think pennies are legal tender for debts of that size here. :-P

    @cstross It's also a setting where it's just accepted that you might have parts of your diseased body scooped up and put in a machine to keep you useful rather than actually fixing your ailments and where running away is prevented by implanted explosives.

    Can the EU parliament even amend the legislation it's considering?

    I was under the impression that it can only approve or reject whatever the Commission hands it.

    If the Commission are the only ones that get a say in the wording they are the ones that need to be convinced.

    @libreoffice

    Given the difficulty Excel has had with malicious macros this seems like it could be asking for trouble.

    I think you've just taught us that there is such a thing as too little pollution after all.

    @goatsarah @cstross @SuperMoosie @Sinner the hot water bill is insignificant compared to the heating of the building in winter.

    @goatsarah @cstross @SuperMoosie @Sinner hear pump water heaters work by cooling the air of the room they're in. That's no good for heating a building.

    @cstross @goatsarah @SuperMoosie @Sinner OK that's way harder. I doubt you can get the required airflow through disused chimneys.

    @cstross @goatsarah @SuperMoosie @Sinner I've seen houses with very long refrigerant lines for air conditioning. If it's a terraced house you might be able to disguise the cold side in a louvered shed down the garden. The actual visible change to the house would only be one or two small holes possibly below grade. Could that get approval?
