@Edent Good writeup! To add: originating servers could orchestrate anonymous (on the poll author's side) voting by sending votes from a shadow account instead of the user's real account, moving the knowledge of who voted from the pollster's server to the answerer's. On the fediverse, identity is cheap anyway, so there's not much added potential for abuse. @rimu recently did just that in PieFed, in the context of link aggregator votes.

The lack of moderation is specifically designed, tho. It's intentional, with predictable results. The distinction between software features that the app has and management decisions the owners make is artificial.

Telegram DOES specifically cater to their needs, tho. Obviously. By being a "free speech" platform that ignores their social responsibility, Telegram knowingly enables and hosts various different criminals, terrorists and pedos.

How can I link to a search on a #Mastodon instance? For example https://mastodon.social/search?q=cats does not work.

@michael @laurenshof @maegul @newsmast Ahh that is pretty interesting - the 'group' is an Actor of type 'Service' instead of 'Group' which is pretty unusual. It's not going to work with any threadiverse platform, probably.

The way it is now works best with Mastodon and friends. To make it play nice with PieFed & Lemmy it would need to be more like this FEP describes https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/1b12/fep-1b12.md

Mastodon is a bigger audience so it makes more sense to target that.
