@joepie91 "if you disagree then you can just fork it" is a response that you'd only get from a developer to shut down genuine complaints often made by users who are themselves not developers and never will be developers.

It's a callous cop-out at best and a refusal to acknowledge and address poor design or critically missing features at worst.

The fact that filters Just Work™ here on fedi because there is no ranking algorithm to dodge or game by mangling key words or names is a mental health godsend.

Please for the sake of your fellow fedizens, do not mangle names or words and use CWs for current events. There is no algorithm to derank your posts, and people like me can use the tools given to us to tend to our mental health.

Mangling filterable words to get around filters is an incredibly scummy thing to do here. Please don't.

@foone I've been kinda doing that with my python dice rolling script, but with the added fun challenge of also being able to provide an optional statistics report including the polynomial generating function that gets all the useful probability stats if --verbose is set.

It's more meant to be a fun trip into the math of dice probability than being a useful dice rolling script, but I get a useful dice rolling script out of it as a bonus so hey presto.

Me: *sees a terminal emulator I might like, goes to check if it has the config options I want*

Said terminal emulator: We've already changed how our app stores its config! It's not YAML anymore! It's TOML! 🥰

Sometimes it's fun being an amateur electrical engineer in need of a standalone 5V or 12V supply, and wouldn't you know, random wall-powered DC gadgets come with those!

I have multiple friends who've already said hell no to this place after taking one look at it. THEY DID NOT HAVE TO LOOK VERY HARD TO FIND IT AND PEACE OUT.

It honestly makes me, a neurodivergent kink-positive queer furry, someone who ticks off MULTIPLE boxes of margnalized groups that Capitalist Social Networks tacitly make clear they do not want because we violate capitalist sensibilities, concerned for my own long-term future here.

I am frustrated.

I do not--DO NOT--want to have to go back to using Another Capitalist Social Network.

But there enough nasty and acidic "lefty" people here on Mastodon that they are literally ruining this network and making it hostile to anybody not a parrot of their ideological in-groups.

It stands to chase away people I am Very Much Interested In, or that I care about, who genuinely want what's best for this place.

I always hated being told to "google it" because if I didn't even know WHAT I was searching for, I was basically being told to get fucked. 😕

I never tell people to "google it". I either use my own knowledge of what to search for to get them what they need, or tell them the key terms they'll need for a fruitful search.

@feditips @Iancylkowski @theatticdwellers I should note that I seem to be encountering compatibility issues between mastodon and some other activitypub apps like pixelfed or peertube. I follow a peertube account but as far as I can tell I've not seen a single post of theirs show up in my timeline.

So it is also highly dependent on whether or not the software that runs the instance you're on even supports the types of data they receive.

Wanna know a random #language fact about "Ye Olde"?

The letter thorn (þ) in Early Modern English used to be typeset using a "y" in the blackletter types that were imported from other countries where thorn did not exist in their orthographies.

The misspelling-by-necessity has long since stuck, and so "Ye Olde" is actually supposed to be read as "The Olde".

Likewise, "thou" is not supposed to be pronounced like "cow" but rather like "you". English used to have informal "you" and "thou" was it.
