If by communists who don't like nato you mean people who make the entire conflict about NATO to distract from the fact that Ukraine is a sovereign nation and a liberal democracy with every reason to want to resist Russian imperialism, and that every moral and material incentive of the west is perfectly aligned with aiding them to prevent further genocide and terrorism.

@rolle Mastodon is the only place I've found so far that doesn't have massive tankie presence, they are not as plentiful or actively harmful as fascists but they ruin most leftist spaces I see.

Anyway I don't want to coddle people, they don't need that. I treat them as reasonable because they express reasonable positions. I don't treat rightoids this way because I know their brains are swiss cheese from all the cuck porn and sjw cringe compilations they consume. If I was rhetoricmaxxing what you say'd be completely right but I had reason to expect better.

I recommend leaving this topic to rest though, it's been the better part of a year. Also I can't read any of it because blocked.

Recent times should have taught us that the liberal notion of 'we have similar values they're just wrong about a few things' is a fiction.
The truth is that there are far too many people who actually want bad things to happen, sometimes even if it affects themselves.

@HeavenlyPossum I'm not financially independent, so no, but I have done volunteer work and attended protests in the places I have lived, and am actively learning my local language to hopefully do stuff here. Unfortunately the USA situation is a distant priority but a credible threat, much like say a dam being negligently maintained two hundred kilometers upstream; not my job by virtue of geography, but I will be affected if something goes wrong, so my complaints are valid.

@peterrelph2 The core truth of your point that elites are colluding worldwide to keep us down is true, and so is liberals being often so weak and spineless that they may as well be controlled opposition but being undiscerning to a fault results in basically advocating for not participating in democracy and thereby making it worse in a time of surging fascism worldwide. If democracy wasn't valuable, the fascists wouldn't be doing everything in their power to suppress it.

@neonsnake Being responsible and making good decisions is often difficult and unpleasant, and sometimes failing to do the right thing has consequences for other people regardless of how you feel about it.

However as for actual suggestions about what leftists should do; I say stop talking about Biden and start talking about fascists because nothing can make Biden look good and thank god we have a year before elections for the air to clear a bit.

@neonsnake Biden deserves to lose but the world deserves to not have the world's largest nuclear arsenal fall into the hands of fascists who have a publically available plan to dismantle the administrative state and replace it and upper echelons of the military with loyalists.

The stakes could not be higher. Being morally right is secondary to survival.
