I was hate-watching "Love on the Spectrum", and got so angry I had to turn it off. I got to the surprise romanic vacation and turned it off. Autistic people don't like surprise vacations. That show is a colosseum where they plunge autistic people (who also have intellectual disabilities) into an arena of aggressively neurotypical social interactions and tell them what to do and say. (Speed dating? Are you serious?) Then they're filmed getting eating by lions for the neurotypical gaze, for sport. 👎👎 #ActuallyAutistic

@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs @rdmc My headcanon is Erza Scarlet is good autistic representation because she's not actually autistic-coded but enough of it is visible in hindsight: poor social skills, rules driven, poor emotional affect/expression, wears armor constantly even when it's inappropriate because it helps her mask and regulate her emotions, very comfortable and cheerful around the people she's close to but cold and stoic to most others, and has a clear special interest in fashion both as part of her magic powers as well as loving tailored and expensive casual clothes.

@rdmc it makes me so sad that I cannot think of a single good example of representation in tv/film. Can anyone else who is #ActuallyAutistic ? I can only think of good examples of people I think are autistic-coded, like the sister who wrote sci-fi in "Happiest Season" or Daniel Day-Lewis in "Phantom Thread"...I could keep going but 😅

@ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs
I’ve tried to watch some of these shows to get some perspective and hopefully insights to help me be a better dad.
Inevitably I just feel like everyone is getting exploited so we can feel better for enjoying them in their quirkiness and discomfort. I do not gain insights and do not feel good watching it.That said; do you have any suggestions for tv shows that are more respectful and insightful?
