@kiwi People rushed to detract from his death so fast it's almost like they WANT it to not be effective, and they also rushed to smear anyone positive about the situation as prescriptively wanting more self-immolation or something. Dumb libs.
@KawaTora Because the majority of people don't vote, so non-voters are already getting what they want, which is an unforgivably high chance for a Trump victory.
You should be thankful to be privileged enough for that to not be a matter of life and death for you, because it was for many the first time he won, and it will be worse the second time around, and the palestinians will be genocided one way or the other, which is horrifying, but with Trump the Ukrainians and trans and gay people will also be genocided. So yeah enjoy your privileges while they last, they'll find a reason to come after you as well, and don't go quoting any 'first they came for the communists' poems once it's all over.
@flawed@palestine@israel You better remove those "quotes" off "civilians" boi. You are literally falling for the same trap the Israelis are by essentializing the other group as all guilty, even if Israel's fascism problem runs wide and deep.
@erma If you can't take one look at his youtube channel and realize he's doing nothing but licking Putin's taint ever since that viral video at the start of the war, you are extremely unfit to recognize propaganda and need to go back to basics instead of attempting to debate people. Also, Realism is discredited in IR circles as a serious framework and serves only as a good starting point for understanding how people think about the subject, before moving on to far better modes of analysis. Mearsheimer is behaving more like Russell Brand than an academic since the invasion and it's ridiculous.
@Anarchtopus Mid 20s here. No, it is objectively true that the internet has been severely compromised and deprecated, including basic services like google search and google images. I was taught in school how to do advanced searches like '-query' to exclude search results but that seems to no longer work, or at least any time I've tried to use it in the last two years it didn't. I am increasingly needing to go to the second page of google to find the wikipedia article for things where the first is all shit for sale. Finding information on stuff like caring for pets or home care or medical matters is now impossible to get off google because all the search results I find are obviously untrustworthy AI garbage (eg. "To get rid of Silverfish in your home is very easy! What you have to do is remove things they like, and what they like is Moisture" like yeah bro I don't care if you're probably correct I'm not getting my info from shit obviously written by a bot).
I can no longer type in 'x fanart' and find tons of images of interesting fanart I instead get loads of garbage results like samples and blurry cut up banners found from some romanian gaming article or something and I have to go to specific sites like boorus to get a comparable density of relevant stuff.
When I open social media that I don't normally use like twitter or youtube shorts I'm immediately bombarded by far right, incel, nazi, pro-russia, pro-israel horseshit. It's depressing.
@neonsnake Sounds like you're dancing around using the word evil when it exists for a reason. We are taught to see shades of grey but it causes us to ignore darkest black. Sometimes it's not grey, sometimes it's black. It's sometimes not rhetorically effective to call evil what it is, but that doesn't mean it's not evil.
@peterrelph2 That's okay, but know that most people, including those in the PolSci field, have much more restrictive definitions than you and this is bound to cause conflict, because identifying fascism is vital. I am also wholly of the belief that 'everything is fascism' on an emotional level, but that's an extremely flimsy position to take if you're trying to get people to understand what we're up against.
For my 'actual' definition I prefer Umberto Eco's take: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ur-Fascism But I'm not a stickler for definitions, I just don't like how a lot of people these days think Black doesn't exist, but you seem have the opposite problem; you present the world in blackest terms such that we can't see any solutions, and this is the danger of 'everything being fascism'. So yeah fuck libs but there's no victory without them.
@peterrelph2 I also agree with Varoufakis' observations but I don't think he believes in the same conclusions you do, OP. After all, you're not wrong just counterproductive.
re: Oligarchy just describes how power is distributed, Fascism is ultranationalism and demands enemies and victimhood, Fascism is a tool of oligarchs, not a result of oligarchs. Bezos is an oligarch but not a fascist, Musk is a fascist.
@Klax I greatly value honesty but no, because I don't have a good enough grip on my own views on day-to-day matters so I can't be honest about lots of things because I first have to figure out what I think about most things, which is a process that takes far too long for casual conversation, so I often resort to making shit up just to keep the conversation moving.
@Klax Israel is getting ready to lay waste to the last remaining city in Gaza, Rafah. Once a population of 200k, it is now 1.65 million, and they have literally nowhere else to go but the moon once the IDF starts killing there like they've killed everywhere else.
