I love this quote. It highlights the absurdity at the heart of our society.

Under capitalism, it's very normal to let children go hungry, let banks force people out of their homes, let sick people die for lack of access to healthcare. But the idea that billionaires could just be less rich, not poor, not struggling, just less rich, is considered insane.

Can anyone explain why what I believe are considered to be policies of the extreme left? I believe every person should have access to food, housing, warmth and cool air, healthcare, and education. I also believe that a select group of people hoarding wealth while others suffer is inhuman.
I don't see what is extreme about any of these things.

@junesim63 They are using the exact same playbook used against Jeremy Corbyn to attack Zack Polanski and the Greens. It is so obviously a nonsense argument being made. It is always made against left-leaning politicians and never people from the far right, such as Farage, who, at school, made hissing gas sounds and told people the Nazis were right. I wonder why the left is considered a greater threat than the right?

Whatever your politics and no matter how much folk might dislike the people of my country or me personally, is it ok for the press to call us filth? Is it any wonder we want to end London rule?

@TCMuffin I used to travel to West Yorkshire on business. A place I always thought was like it was stuck in the 50s. One of guys there got all angry with me and ranted that he couldn't understand why we hated Thatcher. When I told him my parents strapped a speaker to roofrack and drove around neighbourhood playing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead when she passed, he flipped and ranted at me even more. Probably didn't help that I just laughed.

The people of Scotland have elected a huge majority in favour of Scottish independence. There is a growing movement across these islands that what we have isn't good enough. In Wales, Plaid Cymru is the biggest party, and in Northern Ireland, Sinn Féin is the largest Irish nationalist party.
Change is coming to these islands, even if the richest and most powerful don't like it.

The Republic of Ireland has been independent since 1919. It has far fewer natural resources, a smaller landmass, less sea, and a smaller population than Scotland, but its GDP is significantly higher. ROI has a better pension, higher wages, better foreign investment, and significant budget surpluses.
Who really believes that Scotland can't do at least as well as Ireland?

I heard someone ask whether Donald Trump and his backers would go as far as faking an assassination attempt to gain public support. We surely only have to watch the footage of the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, in the summer of 2024, and the lack of Trump's scarring, questions about Secret Service allowing Trump to raise his first, positioning of the flag and photographers, the lack of information ever since, and I think the answer is fairly clear.

Rich, white, and powerful men don't want what they have been doing made public. That is why the Epstein files are kept secret. I can imagine these men joking about Epstein at the golf club. At the same time, I can imagine their consternation at having to do whatever is asked of them by Israel, which has this information and threatens to expose these men.
It sounds like a conspiracy theory, which have no appeal to me, but I find it hard to dispel the taste of truth here.

A reminder of just how sick the Israeli regime is. The IDF forced staff from a hospital, leaving premature and critically ill babies alone in intensive care. When staff were allowed to return, they found the decomposing bodies of the infants still in their hospital beds.
I will never understand why this evil Israeli regime is not being hit with massive sanctions and is allowed to carry on its inhumanity to this day.

I don't know how many were at the march in Edinburgh today, but I have heard that some folk hadn't set off yet, while at the same time others had reached the finish. I fully expect the BBC or STV will barely report on the march, never mind report accurately on how many folk were there. I've been on huge marches before where unionists claimed there were a few hundred of us going around the block. That is how laughable these folk are, and also gives a clue of how afraid they are.

Sir Keir Starmer has ignored UK public opinion and is getting the UK ever more deeply involved in Israel and the US's illegal war on Iran. A poll just a few days ago revealed that 70% of voters oppose the UK joining the US's military offensive. Starmer follows Tony Blair's bloody footprints when he ignored millions of people who took to the streets to oppose his war in Iraq.
