@CloudyMrs@LillyHerself I think you make a good point. Prime Minister Sunk claimed that English was shorthand for British. I think many in England are very confused about their sense of where they come from and where they belong.
@CloudyMrs@argv_minus_one@ginger_tosser Would Scotland be in breach of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty if we tried to keep the nukes after independence? Not that we'd want these weapons on our soil in the first place.
It is the right of the Scottish people to determine our own future. Whether on EU membership, whether or not we want a monarchy, whether we want nukes on Scottish soil, whether we want to retain and expand our publicly owned NHS and more. Why should we vote to continue London rule and being told what we can and cannot do? #VoteSNP
Why do we live in a house where next door gets to choose when we can redecorate, the colour of the paint and wallpaper and the contractor we use? Then to add further insult we have to pay when they decide to build a new kitchen or have their patio relaid. Scottish independence. Let's make our own choices. #SccottishIndependence
Labour are heaping praise on Maggie Thatcher. ๐ก The people of Scotland despised Thatcher. She tore apart society, destroyed industry, sold off our council housing and utilities and more. For Labour to praise such a woman shows how their values don't reflect the values of many of us in Scotland and the things we hold dear. No way will I be voting Labour.
If you are a member of an extreme party or an extremist government then just what counts as extreme? Guy Venables cartoon nails this idea. #GazaGenocide #Protest
I don't get it. The US wants Trump as candidate to become president once more. Why? At a time of worldwide conflict with Ukraine and Israeli genocide, is this really the time for a man with the skillset of Trump? I genuinely don't get what anyone sees in him. What am I missing?
Scotland has rejected the right wing for nigh on 70 years. Yet Labour think it a vote winner in Scotland to take on the policies of the Tories. I have no clue why they expect us to vote for them.
England has over 83% of the seats in Westminster. They have a huge population and voice in comparison with N Ireland, Scotland and Wales. So why do Labour supporters call for the people of Scotland to ride to the rescue of folk in England from the Tories? Surely the English are grown up and can vote for whoever they like. Why don't the English seek independence from other countries in the union? After all the Brexit slogan was about taking your country back.
@steviesyerda@bbcnews The Israeli Ambassador in UK who keeps getting invited onto TV to give her opinion has previously said that East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank are all Israeli lands yet i've never noticed BBC call her out as an extremist. The BBC are very far from fair and honest. In fact, opinion of BBC fallen so far that in Scotland a boycott of BBC news and current affairs for 2024 has started. #BoycottBBCScotland2024
Of course people who support London rule attack anything which threatens the status quo. Such people can never accept that things in Northern Ireland run better because it has a deal that keeps worst of Brexit at arms length or that social care or the health service in Scotland are run better away from London control. To accept otherwise is to tear up their cosy idea of the UK run from London for the benefit of all the peoples of these islands.
@Robsterthermidor@rjpartington Here in Scotland during our independence referendum the Guardian joined rest of unionist press opposing Scottish self-determination. While they continue to publish interesting articles, at their heart what do they actually stand for? Not mentioning Brexit seems to be another example of following the herd.
In theory, the press play a vital role in democracy. Their job supposedly to shine a light into the dark and hold the rich and powerful to account. In real life, the press seem happy to report one side of a story, to cover up inconvenient truths and when necessary to lie. They don't see that their job is to add value to our lives. Does this explain why many people have lost trust in the press and why those who work in the press get no respect? Is investigative journalism a lost craft?
This brilliant video was posted in 2015 but is every bit as relevant today. Have a giggle at the gaggle of suited London Labour politicians visiting Scotland for the day to tell us what we can and cannot do. See their discomfort at being called out. Awww diddums. We rejected Labour then. We will reject them again. ๐คฃ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiMXuEmqAHA
