I'm relatively thrifty for two reasons:

1. Raised medium-poor, so we had to make do. Spent most of my adult life also making do.

2. Raised by a Yankee (my dad) who comes from a culture where thrift and ingenuity is how you show off how smart you are.

It's giving Mid-life crisis.

Like, the Zuck likely wants the greybeards to yell at him, he knows the core userbase isn't computer literate enough to be able to leave, and he wants his website to be cool again, so if the fogeys are protesting he probably feels like he's doing something right.

They also do have a culture of letting the programmers yell directly at whoever had the latest bonehead decision and it's kinda funny, but the contractors think the FTE's who do this basically have a death wish.

Like, what kind of person gets paid six figures and thinks it's a good idea to call the C-levels a bonehead to their face? A crazy person.

But, it does mean they seem to occasionally reverse course on some of their bonehead decisions, so maybe it's worth it.

In the couple of months where I was a contractor (front desk receptionist) at Meta their employee training gave off the distinct vibe that they were trying to be the soft cuddly website where you could keep up with your grandkids.

Like, they knew they were for Grandmas and people who weren't super computer literate to have a gateway to the internet and keep up with their families.

So, it's kind of hilarious that the Zuck wants "masculine energy" it feels very resentful father-of-girls behavior

But they've also gotten in trouble for hiring H1B people because they're less likely to rock the boat, so I always wondered if the people bold enough to post at the C suite about bad decisions were just a dwindling echo of their original startup culture.

Like, as long as someone is being a grumpy greybeard in the comments they haven't lost their soul yet as a company, which is never gonna work.

I hate that this feels like a controversial opinion, but from my observation: smoking weed every day to treat your anxiety seems to make you more anxious over the long term.

Maybe, if you feel bad all the time unless you're high, it might be time for a tolerance break.

Opinion: kinda wish people would work harder on making fedi more accessable rather than just ragging on bluesky.

Normal people who aren't power users are going to gravitate to whatever's easiest to find their friends on, regardless of the maniacs at the helm and bsky isn't even serving ads yet.

To be clear my solution here is: invite people to your server.

Don't gesture at the fediverse in general and say "I think dot art is good for artists?" Interest based communities imply you should only be posting about that shared interest, which is stifling.

The people need a place to Post.

"What about dot social?" Everyone I know on twitter/bsky has a dot social account that stands empty as the plinth of Ozimandius.

Not to be an extrovert but the answer to the problem of "why don't people come to my party?" Is that you gestured at your street and said there's a lot of fun parties they could join.

Which, that's not an invitation, that's a brush off.
