@skinnylatte I'm sure the combination of locking up items + not paying their employees enough such that they're always short-staffed is a great combination!
@RainbowStardiver@skinnylatte looking at how cheap it is to buy a US Senator or even Supreme Court justice is *wild*. These folks don't know their own value!
@jwz the commitment to build up a portfolio as an artist so that you can one day exhibit goatse and force people to treat it as Art is truly commendable.
@cstross getting malware into the iPhone would be the hardest part of this attack given that iPhones have a secure bootloader (and Apple controls the silicon).
@jwz I'm here for this kind of pedantry. Also: after watching the anime _Akuma Kun_ on Netflix a few months ago I also fell down a rabbit hole of medieval demonology. Mine was centered on The Lesser Key of Solomon, though: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lesser_Key_of_Solomon#Ars_Goetia (the sigils are pretty sick!)
@tess What are some of the most important considerations when designing C++ APIs at the boundaries? I'm a few years removed from actively writing C++, but I always struggled with that. It didn't help that the big C++ codebases I worked in (e.g. Gecko) all seem to have homegrown interface systems.
@Polychrome@dysfun having been there while that was happening, unfortunately it was fucked from the start because they let mobile carriers call the shots and the carriers wanted dirt-cheap devices so the user experience was awful on the phones that actually managed to ship.
@navi@fasterthanlime I fully agree that build.rs is a nightmare. Everything else you describe is the standard tension between project developers and distro maintainers that is as old as time. 🙂
@inthehands I listened to the first season of the Startup podcast from Gimlet, which is Alex Blumberg narrating his attempts to get funding to start Gimlet Media itself, and he mentions this exact thing—VCs disdainfully calling the idea of a small, sustainable business a "lifestyle business". It's really fucked, and I think venture capital has done way more harm to our society than good.
@mcc We're proud to announce the creation of the Torment Nexus Foundation, a non-profit organization that will ensure that the Torment Nexus remains available for humanity for the forseeable future.
