@skinnylatte have you ever had Ghanese shito? It's a pepper paste that I think includes both fish and shrimp. It's basically a flavor bomb. My wife ordered delivery a while back and we loved it but she can't remember where she got it from. 😭 There aren't any explicitly Ghanese restaurants around us, but there are a bunch of pan-African places.
Due to circumstances well within our control (me being ridiculous), things have escalated from there. (Rainbow approves, though, which is what really matters.)
My cat Rainbow likes to sit in this basket in my bathroom. My daughter painted a portrait of Rainbow in the basket. I hung it in the bathroom, naturally. Then I got a photo of Rainbow sitting in the basket underneath the painting.
Got this snack in a $5 mystery snack bag at a Chinese grocery. Fell down a rabbit hole of cultural context trying to figure out what it was before I tried eating it.
@slightlyoff I'd like to try the non-vegetarian version, honestly. I like seitan (there's a dive bar in Philly that makes amazing seitan wings!) but texturally it's just not doing it for me here.
@whitequark XHTML and everything related to it are relics from a dark time in the web standards space and should be treated as nothing more than historical curiosities.
@skinnylatte I neglected to take a photo of my favorite dish of the 8 course meal—a watermelon soup with smoked feta cheese and duck chicharrones—so this photo of this dish which has a slice of gourd layered over a cheese, smoked grapes, and something else I've forgotten (should have taken notes!) in an incredible broth will have to suffice.
@skinnylatte apropos of nothing (but on the topic of restaurants), my wife and I just got back from 6 days in Guatemala, and on my birthday we had dinner at this *fantastic* restaurant in Guatamala City: https://www.diaca.gt/ We had seen it months ago on the Guatemala episode of _Somebody Feed Phil_ (I do not like that man or his show, but he did get to eat at some wonderful restaurants). I had saved it on Google Maps in my "Want to Go" list, then realized I had saved it while trip planning.
