@skinnylatte apropos of nothing (but on the topic of restaurants), my wife and I just got back from 6 days in Guatemala, and on my birthday we had dinner at this *fantastic* restaurant in Guatamala City: https://www.diaca.gt/
We had seen it months ago on the Guatemala episode of _Somebody Feed Phil_ (I do not like that man or his show, but he did get to eat at some wonderful restaurants). I had saved it on Google Maps in my "Want to Go" list, then realized I had saved it while trip planning.

@whitequark working with Google "open source" projects rarely sparks joy.

@whitequark are there common things you're uploading for each build? A lot of distributed compilation systems wind up benefiting from an artifact cache where you upload things keyed by a content hash, and then just give the remote build process a list of hashes for it to fetch from the cache.

@whitequark @implr @4censord a while back we implemented icecream-style distributed compliation in sccache, but with sandboxing, authentication, and TLS for network traffic: https://github.com/mozilla/sccache/blob/main/docs/DistributedQuickstart.md

@whitequark I think you are reinventing Bazel's remote execution API: https://github.com/bazelbuild/remote-apis

@whitequark it's too bad you can't have HTML+CSS as an LLVM target.

@whitequark ironically with "network byte order" being defined as big endian, it's little endian systems that have wound up doing more byte swaps!

@whitequark build systems that forcibly rebuild from scratch every time because they can't be bothered to have working dependencies are so hateful

@whitequark this was an interesting watch. I sort of understood the principles but he's quite good at building up an explanation using simple concepts.

@whitequark someone assuredly rewrote that marketing copy from "service accounts" to this to shill their "agentic AI" stuff, but I like (what I assume is) your interpretation better.

@skinnylatte hm, *adding* sugar to what you're eating on-demand seems a lot easier than *removing* it, no? Does your sense of taste for sweetness max out at a lower level than the average American palate? My wife's does and she describes eating overly-sweet foods as painful, akin to overly-spicy foods.

@skinnylatte Health Food is food for people who don't like food (or themselves). Food is such a wonderful, joyous part of being alive. People who attach morality to how much you weigh and then transitively to food live a miserable existence.

@skinnylatte it's a great city! The biggest downside right now is the cost of housing. I guess if you're already paying SF prices it's all relative.

@jplebreton @mhoye the fact that we wiped out a strain of the flu in 2020 due to COVID precautions and that didn't make everyone stand up and take note and ask why we shouldn't work to eliminate the rest (as well as the common cold) is pretty damning of society.

      Onfim
Anthemius (Old Novgorodian: Онѳимє, romanized: Onthime; fl. c. 1220–60), better known by the modern Russian spelling of his name, Onfim (Russian: Онфим), was a boy who lived in Novgorod (now Veliky Novgorod, Russia) in the 13th century, sometime around 1220 or 1260. He left his notes and homework exercises scratched in soft birch bark, which was preserved in the clay soil of Novgorod. Onfim, who was most likely six or seven at the time, wrote in the East Slavic Novgorod dialect. Besides letters and syllables, he drew "battle scenes and drawings of himself and his teacher." Background Novgorod, now known as Veliky Novgorod, is the administrative center of Novgorod Oblast. At the time Onfim lived, it was the capital of the Novgorod Republic. Scholars believe that the Novgorod Republic had an unusually...
