@BeAware@volkris@juergen_hubert the relay is just an indexer. I'm not understanding your issue with it crawling the network. It's a utility to lower the cost of hosting a PDS.
@BeAware@volkris@juergen_hubert this photo is talking about atproto in general. Whitewind as I understand just pulls directly from the PDS. Also there's already numerous non-archival relays that are cheap to run. For example Jetstream.
@BeAware@volkris@juergen_hubert Unfortunately that post is full of misinformation about atproto. For example whtwnd.com, a popular atproto blogging platform, doesn't even use the relay.
@atomicpoet@fediversenews what they do care about tho is algorithmic choice. It's hard to go back to a feed like Threads when you can have the highly custom feeds on Bluesky.
@atomicpoet@fediversenews could it also just be that Threads is an awful app (it is). Also, most Bluesky people don't even care about the protocol lol.
@atomicpoet Okay let's say that the app is temporary, it wouldn't make sense to just stop developing the app when the protocol is finished. What I imagine he means is that if the protocol takes off with a bunch of other companies and apps popping up then they would then drop the app. But I still doubt Jay would really want that, the way. The Bluesky app is supposed to be a market example like Surface Laptops or when Google makes a premium Chromebook.
@atomicpoet@fediversenews Yeah, Jack just says things sometimes lol. He is pretty big on the board considering he's one third, but I doubt Jay would like to all of the sudden lose her company. And the other guy on the board seems way more aligned with Jay.
@atomicpoet@viktor Dorsey also apparently wanted to launch with zero moderation tools but Jay insisted they create at least something before further invites. So he is a strong voice on the board, but he's not final say and I swear I read somewhere that they were gonna add them
@viktor@atomicpoet A lot of people use Twitter DMs as a serious means of communication, especially influencers. But DM's are for sure gonna be added to the "app.bsky" lexicon so I'm wondering if that's gonna be a common layer or something. I imagine it will be e2e as well.
