I have ran a #boardgame #Meetup group for 14 years.

The group has met 1000s of times, both F2F and online, and has over 1000 members….

but Meetup.com has turned to crap over the last few years. Unreliable, poor interface, they dropped the forums, blah blah blah

I do have a few gripes but overall it has served the purpose of people finding my group, and those people RSVPing to group events.

Now they have put up the fees by a massive amount aka 100-ish bucks to 180 for 6 months!

I listened to this yesterday. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Part of is was the great performance of the narrator David Silbey but it is primarily because of the fantastic writing of Sophie Elmhirst. I feel like this story would make a great small-scale film.

There are some pretty chill solarpunks out there.

I've been recommending @solarpunkpresents and the Bright Green Futures podcast from @susankayequinn a lot this week.

I find both podcasts pretty relaxed and playful with the idea of #Solarpunk. They've got their viewpoints but there is an openness to listen and speak to a wide variety of people on both podcasts without being too dogmatic about it.

I think the cool thing about #Solarpunk is that (if it is done well), it can be a big tent where people can cultivate their gardens. The community minded people can focus on building community. The tech people can be in their workshops. The organizers can organize. And the artists can dream and create. All those gardens come together to make something cool and bigger than the sum of its parts. I don't think it can be just one thing.

@cohanf @jendiagammon I've been developing a theory that #Solarpunk has four main aspects: technology (the tools we we use build a new world), politics (how we organize), aesthetics (how things look), and community (how we belong). The key is you need all four to be in a good balance to have a good story or an effective ethic. Each one helps deal with the excesses of the others. It is in that dynamic center where you get a real frisson of creativity!.

@jendiagammon Look forward to reading! I've been reflecting how many genres spend way too much time policing their boundaries. I've seen this in #Solarpunk a lot.
It sometimes feels like well over half of the genre conversations are "Is X or Y Solarpunk?" with a furious clash of swords. It seems like cross-genre works can use the features of each one to create something new and exciting in the combination by playing off each's strengths. It can subvert expectations and create surprises!

@Zeb_Larson We are close to entering that state. The calm before our arrival sometime in October. We are excited but we are trying to enjoy the silence and to not be so focused on being productive.

YouTube is so strange. When I reset mine, I always get "Canada Sucks" videos and videos from the rainbow of far right figures in the US. Really not sure why I get the first one because I do not live in Canada.
