@skinnylatte oh wow this is awesome! Thanks! I've worked my way around Chettinad, Erode Madurai, Trichy food a bit. And only tried very few real Malay dishes. And ok wow this recipe for beef ! 😳 Now I'm getting a better understanding of what your incendiary levels are
@skinnylatte ah makes sense - that nuance, difference in the food in that region I was not aware of. I was incorrectly connecting the rubber grown in Kerala (not in TN) and people+cuisine to the Malay peninsula - but yes the indentured labor of the British Malay boom was more from TN. (Kerala) Traders would have brought spices. How has the Kongu Erode food morphed? That style spicing for meats but with soy sauce and other Malay, Chinese ingredients? Any specific dishes, standouts?
@tpfto 😥 I miss this so much - just picking up an old bound volume of a journal and flipping through. (And the time and luxury of those simpler times to do that)
Sadly no link in the Mainichi article to the lab website and downloads of the baby sleep music, but I'm sure it'll be useful for many (I'd like to try it myself too). Tracked it down - the 3 downloads are available here scroll down (hopefully mp3 are decent resolution, fidelity )
@skinnylatte totally. 2 weeks ago kids got off plane and felt like they were in Chennai airport ... Sounds, smells (somewhat), looks* ("feels like we're going to meet Grandma"). It's wonderful - there's a warm comfort to the place. Enjoy!
If you'd like to make this earl grey tea flavored chocolate mousse (or 'chantilly') - or for that matter chocolate mousse in any flavor* you like - here's the recipe and instructional video (and explanation of the #Science ). And yes indeed it will take you <10 mins to make the chocolate mousse/chantilly in any flavor...
Oh oh oh these umeboshi gummies turn out to be excellent! Kids and partner who isn't into sweets all agree. Great texture and not really sweet, a touch sour but excellent flavor (if a touch heavy on the shiso) I picked up a bunch while in line for the register at the airport 711 - then put all but 1 pack back when I saw they were gummies and not the real umeboshi. Should have kept them. 5/5
I took a short nap on our early morning flight, and when I asked kid2 if she had - she said no. But she did manage, she said, to live her dream of showing the flight attendant this saved pic/meme on her phone as they went by offering snacks.
(Yes, flight attendant laughed and then asked if kid2 wanted a cookie, and yes kid2 did want and get a cookie)
@skinnylatte great article! (and nice KRaghav is coauthor) Students (clientele) really make a big difference. In recent years especially there's so much better (regional) Chinese food here in Pittsburgh
I'm getting decent at estimating suitcase weight! Was prepared to remove a small object or so to backpack/carry on if needed but don't have to - 23 kg/50 lbs is allowance.
