If you are new to the #Fediverse and you see people talking that #Mastodon have 10 million accounts/users…
At least according to #FediDB this is a false assumption.
The 10 million accounts/users is for the **entire** **Fediverse network**.
See: https://fedidb.org
Do not confuse the Fediverse with Mastodon, these are **not** interchangeable.
“Fediverse” is the name of the resulting network that grew out of the #AcitivtyPub (latest) / #OStatus (previous) / #OpenMicroBlogging (first) protocols.
While “Mastodon” is a software brand name / trademark.
It's the same with #Lemmy and #Kbin.
The label #Treadiverse is not interchangeable with the label Fediverse.
“Threadiverse” refers to the link-aggregator type of software like Lemmy and Kbin (there are others, check the Wikipedia list).
Threadiverse is part of the Fediverse network.
Coolness? Awesome!
Track the growth of #Kebin and #Lemmings -> https://fedidb.org/current-events/threadiverse
For those who seek a replacement for #Reddit and cannot join any other platforms for whatever reason
Since yesterday we also have a #Lemmy and #Kbin instance running :cat_hug_triangle: Keep in mind that Kbin is still in early dev..! ⚠️

👿 PSA: #Reddit is restoring deleted and overwritten posts to save what they consider "their data". This is a new low and probably illegal at least in Europe. You can send a GDPR or CPRA request here: https://www.reddit.com/settings/data-request
These are screenshots of my profile on June 14th before and after overwriting and then deleting all my posts with Powerdelete. Today, June 16th all my posts have been restored by Reddit without my knowledge or consent.
Signs of the #RedditMigration in action: Three of the top 6 fastest growing #Fediverse servers are not only not Mastodon.social but they are not even microblogging servers - but rather are #Threadiverse servers.
That is only seriously good for the entire Fedi infrastructure. Diversity is strength.
Like, if you're totally fine with not being able to effectively moderate a server you operate, then by all means, test out #kbin and #lemmy, but encouraging folks to use either en-mass as if they're anywhere near the calibre of Mastodon or Pixelfed* then you're in for a very very bad time.
Alpha software does need alpha users to test and provide feedback, but we should be VERY careful recommending alpha software to mainstream massive audiences as an alternative to $centralisedPlatform.
Okay, so, I've just done a review of the #moderation features in both #Lemmy and #kbin, thanks to @stux and @ruud
I've written up a fuller report on the IFTAS matrix, but the tl;dr is: if you care about user safety, do not deploy either of these.
They do not feature comprehensive or well built moderation tools, and you will not be able to effectively moderate instances running this software.
You are better off waiting to deploy these once they mature more.
✨ We love to see the #Lemmy + #Kbin growth!
We made a special page on fediDB to make it easier to track growth 🚀

Long live the fediverse ❤️
> Mastodon users tend to demand the whole rest of the Fediverse cut down on its features
No? Different apps have different UIs to fit their different features and ways to communicate.
> So you want to only log into hachyderm.io, then go to hub.netzgemeinde.eu (...) Is that what you want?
I want to use my Mastodon creds to login into any #Lemmy or #kbin instance. That's all I want. Not jump through hoops. I don't know if ActivityPub protocol permits this, but it should.
@youronlyone @fediversenews
Yea, not sure I entirely agree.
By "fediverse" I'm referring to the collective quality of the whole, however much any part is responsible.
I'm also presuming (accurately enough AFAICT) that interaction between mastodon users and #lemmy/#kbin is not high compared to interactions internal to #lemmy/#kbin.
Sure, the software has problems, but much of the attraction of the #threadiverse depends on the level of activity and number and size of communities.
1/
Not that I have checked it out, but isn't #lemmy also an option for ex-redditters?
Daily traffic to the top two #Kbin and #Lemmy servers over the last 28 days.
This is data analytics company Simliarweb. It has a small delay on web traffic - its data goes till June 11th, but that is updated daily, and I'll update picture as it does.
IMPORTANT
@feditips and I strongly discourage using #Lemmy. Here is why:
https://mastodon.social/@HistoPol/110522257089980041
#Kbin can be used instead.
I started my own #lemmy instance. Check it out https://discuss.online!
