@tjradcliffe@clacke There isn't something inherently wrong with men except maybe a marginal testosterone-induced greater tendency to aggressivity, but there is something that is instilled in men from a very young age that can and should be unlearned for them to be decent to be around. It isn't just about the parents, it's about society at large and can be summarized by the classic "boys will be boys" response.
@denix@codinghorror It isn't an all or nothing question, and recognizing house chores are more problematic to men in heterosexual relationships isn't sexist.
@clacke@Quinnypig Unlike personal net worth that can and is converted into cash from shares individuals hold themselves, companies net worth is only a potential value based on the shares spread between all the stockholders. As such this value can greatly fluctuate without really affecting any single entity, which tells me it's mostly meaningless.
I wouldn't have expected this outcome but it isn't entirely surprising to me, all it takes is just a downward hum for Amazon (1.5 million employees) share price and an upward hum for nVidia (26,000 employees) share price, without any regard to pretty much anything tangible since it's all potential anyway.
@silverwizard The iPhone shows you the player widget on the lock screen when music is playing, so I don't have a need for it. Also, I'm living in a very dumb home and I wouldn't want it any other way. Not sure what I would glance at for email in a widget but I see the benefit for some people.
@trashheap Friendica already has a two-way plugin for Bluesky using their public API, I'm pretty sure @heluecht will have a field day once it will be possible to set up independent Bluesky servers.
@silverwizard I wasn't impressed by widgets either, but I now have a calendar and a weather widget on my phone home screen. That's probably as far as I'll go though.
@neuralex@onisillos@nddev@sebwhatever Born from religious parents (but not proselyte), I used to self-identify as agnostic because I wasn’t 100% sure gods didn’t exist. I’ve since self-relabeled as atheist. If you don’t do anything different in your life on the off-chance gods exist, then you’re just an atheist.
@clacke I like that this test exists but its increased depth compared to the Bechdel test also makes it more vulnerable to arguing since it tests less factual aspects of a fictional work. Both "independent plot arc" and "story independent of supporting a male character’s narrative are abstract concepts that are highly subjective.
The Bechdel test is more limited, of course, but at least it can be independently verified even by anti-feminists.
@clacke I like the 1984 version more because it was bolder visually, and played out more like a thriller than an action movie, which does feel closer to the book where action scenes are kind of abstracted away. The 2021 version is visually impressive, but less aesthetically daring and a tad too fighty, which dissipate a little the constant paranoia developed in the book that everybody is feeling at all times at this level of political power.
I also agree with @tipjip about Jessica who doesn’t represent the frightening Bene Gesserit cult very well.
I’m still looking forward to the subsequent Villeneuve movies.
