I started watching #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo yesterday evening, and I found the character exaggerated. There was a lot that was exactly right, but a fair amount that didn't match my experience at all, or which seemed to have been played almost for laughs. I have to remind myself that it's entertainment, not a documentary, and that every autist's experience is unique. But the character seems terribly childlike. Is that how people see us?
TBH, after watching just the first episode, I'm not sure how I feel about that series. I'll give it a few more episodes and then decide.
@androcat@clacke@sebwhatever@neuralex@onisillos Yes, they do, but you'll notice that I've always been courteous in this thread, despite being repeatedly accused of saying things I wasn't actually saying. I think we get further (and have a better time) by staying polite and constructive.
@neuralex@onisillos@sebwhatever@actuallyautistic The idea that #agnosticism is #atheism is an atheist idea that I've encountered before, but I disagree. The way I see it, atheism says there is no god, whereas agnosticism is not yet decided. Agnosticism is the humbler position, because it admits that there may be evidence we haven't seen or can't understand; atheism says it's seen enough and understood enough, and no god exists.
@dramypsyd So many people make the same mistake that #KMail has, for some decades, warned users who include certain words (such as "attached") without attaching anything. I'm surprised that more widely used mailers still haven't got round to adding the same feature.
And, if you have any appliances that produce carbon monoxide — gas stoves, gas fires, log burners — then get a carbon monoxide alarm. If it's any good, it'll give you temporary shift of hearing when you test it. It *has* to be that loud, because carbon monoxide will make you drowsy, thus keeping you in place while it kills you.
Carbon monoxide alarms are cheap. I paid a little over £20 for ours in (I think) 2016, and it should last ten years.
Are you still keeping quiet about your autism? Well, maybe not as quiet as you think.
Helen was chatting to a friend today about something I'd done. The friend immediately said, "Oh, that's obviously the autism." We've never told a soul about my autism, but this friend has an autistic son and she saw it straight away.
@feditips That's a nice write-up, as always. Thanks for everything you do here.
You've used the phrase "character limit" without explaining it. It might be worth adding a few words to say that a higher character limit means you can write longer messages.
You might want to *consider* saying that using a very small server will mean that many messages in a thread won't be visible to you. I'm in the process of migrating from a couple of small instances to a couple of largish instances for just this reason. I would guess an instance doesn't need to be so large if it serves a specific interest and you match that interest, but I've not used so many instances that I can say that for sure.
** I'm currently moving to @nddev, because infosec.space blocks Threads and c.im doesn't. Please follow me there, rather than here. **I'm an oldish cis het software developer in the UK, married to Helen. I've recently discovered that I'm autistic.Avatar is a genuine photo of a street sign, which says "Hill Street" in English and "Three Pigeons Road" in French, signifying absurdity.
