     Canonical knew about his conviction. He disclosed it. The court records were open and available for anybody to look at, and they'll make you sick to your stomach. When people found out about it Canonical defended their decision to hire a guy who had "served his sentence", even though the only sentence that would've served the interests of actual justice would be a summary execution followed by an unceremonious kicking of the corpse into a ditch.

     I had heard of this one before but never really looked into it. But now seeing that they're #7 on distrowatch and have a pretty recent kernel, I may have to look into it more.

     My formative experience with Loonicks was back in 2005 when I installed it on my old Compaq tower. I spent a whole weekend carrying my tower back and forth across the house to connect it directly to Ethernet because the wi-fi adapter wouldn't work, scrolling through forum threads and pasting terminal commands I didn't understand at all trying to get the drivers working. Then my dad tried to use the computer in my room once and got extremely pissed that I had nuked Windows Vista off the machine. Ah, memories.

     It's a "gaymer distro", but it's pretty interesting because it is based on Fedora Atomic, so it's more stable because updates either fully work or they aren't applied.
     The downside it has is that you can only easily install flatpaks with it (you can actually install normal RPM packages but then you mess everything up and it stops making sense). But in the end, you'll just open Bazaar which is the "app store" and install stuff from that, no hassle at all. I think it's even more "beginner friendly" than something like CachyOS, mostly because you won't have to deal with pacman.

     And if you don't want a gaymer distro because you think it's cringe, Aurora is another distro that "just werks" also based on Fedora Atomic, and it's most oriented to workstations.

     Right now it seems like the sanest desktop distro is CachyOS since it's basically SteamOS but more suited for use as an everyday desktop. I don't really care about the "performance tuning" they advertise, it's just nice because it's not bloated. pacman takes a little getting used to but I like it better than apt.

     @Hoss @ankokukishi @Goalkeeper @bronze @vic Bazzite basically tries to be SteamOS for devices that aren't the Steam Deck. So much that it even has a version that uses Steam Gaming Mode (which is a controller friendly interface so you can use Bazzite on your Steam Deck/ROG Ally/Whatever).
     
     The regular KDE version is fit for desktop usage, IMO, I used it as a regular desktop for doing work stuff for a long time. It comes with Steam preinstalled, has a bunch of drivers for different GPUs, also comes with some bullshit that you need to easily play games from Epic or GOG if you wish so.
     
     The fact it uses flatpaks only is a two edged sword: there are fewer flatpaks of Linux applications than regular packages, you won't find every niche program developed by a single autist in his basement as a flatpak. On the other hand, I think that if you came from Windows or MacOS, flatpaks are easier to wrap your head around because they are just self contained programs with all the shit they need to work that you can easily install and uninstall through a graphical "store".

I am currently using qbt-nox and you can't actually control it via cli, it presents a web interface, and that interface is now broken; the torrent list is there but, as far as I can tell, is rendering a few million pixels off the right of the page.
     All I want is a fucking torrent daemon and ctl. I have not been able to find one.
     And since I'm doing that, I'll put it on a different box. Which means I should probably move a bunch of files...
     ... Maybe quicker to actually copy the git stuff off the big disks to elsewhere, then just swap the disks.

You know Plan 9's stdlib has support for JSON? When you include the library, scanf() and printf() have hooks that give them JSON support. It's so goddamn nice.)

     ...because my "pals" are dickhead assholes who would find my glorious asteroid base and fuck with it. Paint it pink, fill it with lava/poison/water/oil/aliens, fill my curated storage cannisters with random garbage, blow walls up so aliens could get inside and eat my tenants, grow man-eating tentacle plants in the garden, put lava pits below my settler spawn points to create infinite torture-loops...
     
     ...so I modded the game to kill "my friends" (TM) when they came at my base.
     
     My Gravity toggle switch could be set so high that walking over a pothole-sized bump would squish a player. The monster spawns outside the base were a one shot. It had gun turrets that would blast anyone but me on sight. Trapdoors would open into trenches filled with spikes and landmines. The shield prevents changing blocks within 35k units of itself while active. The doors have password locks and gun turrets.
     
     GET OFF MY LAWN.
     
     I would log in and see piles of food, supplies, crafting components, blocks and gear littering the ground in front of my base. Each cluster the remains of some vandal who thought they were going to f*ck with MY BASE.
     
     Still wondering what Xay was planning to do with 2000 candy-cane blocks, but it wasn't very nice.
