"Steady-state growth" economics, or constant inflation as the value of the economy progressively grows, was the new norm, and ditching the gold standard let off pressure, but the terminus of the modern economy was set in stone.

     I used to condemn Nixon for that too, but now I've started to realize that he might not have been able to do all that much to avert the end result of monetary policy machinations set in motion by FDR during the Great Depression.
