@kingrat Yeah, just read the same thing on CNN, lol.
Good for NY, too bad for us 😆

Trump cast his vote in FL but...
As a convicted felon in FL, was it an illegal vote? He's been convicted but didn't serve time/pay fines yet (because the sentencing hasn't happened).

@fu @smilingheretic Well, I'd definitely agree with you - but it won't happen with this Supreme Court for sure!
Citizen's United (corporate personhood) and Buckley v. Valeo (the dollar = free speech) both need to be overturned to unfuck the campaign finance side of the equation that is keeping congress beholden to corporations. If that happens, maybe congress will start looking out for people but I'm not holding by breath on any of it.
Make laws where, when people profited from an illegal act, they lose all the money made during that period plus and additional fine that was a percentage of those gains.
Corporations are people, corporations should spend time in jail (figuratively), pay fines, lose rights if convicted (including the ability to make political donations) until they've paid their dues financially and in time.
Boards and C-level exec should be held accountable and lose the ability to hold those positions in future companies.
This applies to price gouging during a pandemic.
If people really gave a shit about capitalism, then they'd make and enforce laws that reduced the chances that corporations would do anti-consumer bullshit.
Capitalism won't survive the current state of "profit no matter what". While I'm ok with that to a certain extent, I'm also not ready for the pending complete collapse of the economy because I just don't have enough ammo.
I'm not religious but I like the loose parallels between trump and the descriptions of the antichrist.
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast"
😄
I was thinking this morning as I sat in bed, "Very few things I see on the news are a surprise to me now. "
And that's kinda sad...
@kingrat Yeah, it is primarily around this:
"Cannot be used for lobbying or influencing legislation or political campaigns"
with the key point being "lobbying or influencing legislation" - which is the key point of project 2025, their scorecards for politicians, etc.
I'm sure that:
1. They skirt the regulations, getting as close to what they can get away with w/o crossing the line
2. Count on the regulation being loosely defined. With things like "enhancing social welfare" having no defined measurements
3. Count on people not holding them accountable
4. Count on the IRS not having the time or resources to spend enforcing 501c3 compliance
Event Heritage Action is a 501c4 which has some limits as to what it can do politically (though it has more leeway).
All this being said, I have no background in law so I could be completely wrong.
But this is interesting: https://www.citizensforethics.org/reports-investigations/crew-reports/the-irs-is-not-enforcing-the-law-on-political-nonprofit-disclosure-violations/
As is this:
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/05/heritage-foundation-dark-money-voter-suppression-laws/
Wait, the Heritage Foundation is a 501c3 and supporting a particular Candidate?
Is that pastor saying that his flock should vote a certain way?
Well I have the solution!
1. Make an anonymous email address
2. Fill out an IRS form 13909 and write up a formal complaint
3. Email that form to eoclass@irs.gov
4. Tell your friends!
https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/irs-complaint-process-tax-exempt-organizations
Most state governments also have a similar complain process via the state's justice department.
Time to do our civic duty!
Every right-wing conspiracy is a confession:
- Biden crime family > Trump gets convicted
- Deep State > people finally look at the Heritage Foundation and all of their fingers in the government
- Dem Pedos > Trump was friends with Epstein for years, Gaetz trafficked teens, Foley, Hastert, Moore - the list goes on
- Fake News > Fox has been busted on multiple occasions, InfoWars was shut down, NewsMax has little to no factual information
I mean, I could be wrong, but I'm seeing a pattern.
The right-wing: "The deep state is controlling the government! It is controlled of coastal elites who want to control every aspect of American's lives!"
Me: "You mean the Heritage foundation?"
Marco Rubio: "No, it's not like..."
Me: "Have you read the definition of deep state?"
Rubio: "But..."
Me: "a secret network of nonelected government officials and private entities operating extralegally to influence and enact government policy."
Rubio: "But.."
Me: https://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/trump-transition-heritage-foundation-231722
Rubio: "Uhh.."
Rubio: "..."
Me: https://www.cnn.com/2016/05/18/politics/donald-trump-supreme-court-nominees/index.html
Rubio: "Imma just gonna head out."
Me: "You do that. Hey, I'll give you one thing - they aren't very secretive - they post all this shit, but they do do all their dirty shit behind closed doors."
Me: "Also this:" https://rollcall.com/2018/06/05/heritage-actions-dan-holler-to-join-rubio-staff/
Me: "Now how about you stfu."
Taraji P. Henson mentioned Project 2025 during the BET awards and it resulted in a rise in searches on Google for the subject.
They're telling us what they're going to do if Trump takes office. It is in writing. Yes, some of this isn't new - the Heritage Foundation has long had plans for these sort of actions but they've long hidden behind the shadowy robes of conservative judges and behind the red ties of GOP politicians. They don't need to hide anymore. This is what happens when the cockroach population gets large enough.

Well sheeit...
Just when you thought this shit couldn't get dumber:
Here are the warming Stripes for Los Angeles (illustrating the temp rise over time for the region).

@AbandonedAmerica LA still has a number of those great old theatres like the Mayan, the Orpheum, or the Palace - I hate seeing old theatres crumble.
As for modern theatres, while I appreciate some of the seating changes and the like, I haven't felt compelled to watch movies in the theatre like I used to. For me it is a number of issues:
- Hollywood films trend towards more sequels or remakes, or "the safe" choice where they just cast Chris Pratt for the main character.
- I got a big TV, I can wait for the film to stream and I can sit on the couch, in my boxers, with a bag of microwave popcorn and not have to deal with people.
- I hate people
- I don't like leaving the house
- I hate parking lots
- The magic of seeing a film on the big screen is less attractive than dealing with people
- The people I hate, are also in the parking lots which I hate
- I'm also cheap and pay for a lot of streaming services
All this being said, I wish I hated those things less to see Dune (a fucking remake), on the IMAX.
Wendy's CEO has supposedly released a statement that they won't be charging more for their menu items at peak times? I'm just hoping that public outrage caused them to rethink things.
Now if they could just make food that tasted good.
Just in case you didn't realize it before - there are 3 major religions in this world that all follow the same God but have different interpretations of wtf happened after they split from the original texts. Their God didn't change, they just did.
The first one decided that they're right, and no other prophets came along after their prophets.
The second one said, "we accept most of your religion but this guy showed up and he's the son of God"
The third one said, "Look, we're all brothers, that guy was cool but he wasn't the son of God. We have a new prophet and we got an updated rulebook from God and we're gonna follow that."
Now all 3 of them (plus the 4 versions of the first one, the 6 versions of the second one and 7 versions of the 3rd one) all argue about who's right - and have spent centuries letting political leaders use their faith to inspire each other to kill one another for their faith.
And there is no end in sight for this bullshit.
Vet, progressive, fact checker. You don't need religion to be moral. Climate change is real. He/Him/His
