@AbandonedAmerica LA still has a number of those great old theatres like the Mayan, the Orpheum, or the Palace - I hate seeing old theatres crumble.
As for modern theatres, while I appreciate some of the seating changes and the like, I haven't felt compelled to watch movies in the theatre like I used to. For me it is a number of issues:
- Hollywood films trend towards more sequels or remakes, or "the safe" choice where they just cast Chris Pratt for the main character.
- I got a big TV, I can wait for the film to stream and I can sit on the couch, in my boxers, with a bag of microwave popcorn and not have to deal with people.
- I hate people
- I don't like leaving the house
- I hate parking lots
- The magic of seeing a film on the big screen is less attractive than dealing with people
- The people I hate, are also in the parking lots which I hate
- I'm also cheap and pay for a lot of streaming services
All this being said, I wish I hated those things less to see Dune (a fucking remake), on the IMAX.
