It's both awful and dehumanising.
One can't refuse completely to participate, but every interaction with the shitshow leaves me feeling angry and complicit.

The thing I'm struggling hardest with at the moment is kid's peers' parents not putting any guardrails around screen-time, allowing open slather.

Smart geeks were bullied at school, and in most other situations thought and acted differently from those around them. It's bound up in their identity and a source of pride.

There is precious little difference between a block, and the act of walking away because you no longer want to hear what a person is saying. If they follow you and start shouting and ranting, well...

@aral possibly irrelevant but when I was a new immigrant without much credit history I was able to get a mortgage with one of the smaller non-bank lenders paying an extra 2.5% interest, then switch loans 9 months later to a normal bank once I had some payment history. Good luck man.
