     @aral Writing alternatives implies that the original proprietary thing is acceptable - please write replacements instead.
     
     Indeed proprietary software is good at stopping free software from being written by being part of the setup that ensuring that people have great difficulty achieving things as basic as housing.

     Indeed proprietary software is excellent at stopping free software from being written, one part of that is by being part of the proprietary setup that ensures people have great difficulty in securing basic housing.

     @aral possibly irrelevant but when I was a new immigrant without much credit history I was able to get a mortgage with one of the smaller non-bank lenders paying an extra 2.5% interest, then switch loans 9 months later to a normal bank once I had some payment history. Good luck man.
