@quoidian @kibcol1049 sure, but Russia can trick Africans and Asians into signing contracts to fight for them. Russia will always win the numbers war, which is why Europe should give the Ukrainians all the weapons they need. Holding off as we did, has brought us where we are.

@Flisty @Sarahw @vfrmedia @kibcol1049 maybe the only way a private company could deliver a profitable service would be for it to be completely automated. From the drivers, to the ticketing, to the maintenance. I'm making this up, of course, but who knows? Maybe it would be possible that way.

@Flisty @Sarahw @vfrmedia @kibcol1049 the security problem exists today. Especially in the UK people know they are being watched and that doesn't really do much to make them behave. That's a matter for law enforcement and security companies. Or... SECURITY ANDROIDS! Working 24/7 and coordinated from manned central office! They would smile at young kids, be pleasant to the elderly, and would restrain the bullies and drunkards. And they would never be grumpy or distracted.

@John_Loader @gareth @Sarahw @vfrmedia @kibcol1049 I was told the UK has a government scheme where if you buy solar panels and batteries together you don't pay VAT, or something. That's a great offer. But there is no incentive scheme in Portugal to buy batteries. I bought solar panels with a government incentive plan. With the savings and the first year of selling excess production, I was able to pay for the panels in less than 18 months. But I can't find a business case for batteries.

@mekkaokereke that is interesting indeed. But they wouldn't be voting for Biden, they would be voting for Kamala. Did they see her simply as an extension of Biden?

@mekkaokereke we're talking about 13 million people. While that will certainly apply to some of them, I find it a bit of a stretch to claim to know the motivation of all of them. But I won't dwell on this for longer as it is impossible to prove either of our assumptions.

@mekkaokereke it is interesting that Trump got the same amount of votes as in 2020. So apparently 13 million people who voted for Biden couldn't be bothered to vote for Kamala.

@killyourfm was that a replacement battery or the original? I replaced my Kindle's battery and it lasted maybe 3 months. It died of sudden death. The Kindle normal behaviour is to switch the e-paper screen to a logo of a battery or something when it needs recharging. But in this case it didn't even realise the battery needed charging, so it died with one of the generic pictures the screen shows when it's off. Now I'm not sure where to buy a safe battery.

@botvolution @Badger you could be right, I have no technical background to argue. But wouldn't you agree that there's a colour saturation inconsistency between the bottom and top halves of the picture?

@Badger that first picture looks artificially saturated, but specifically on the woman's and the store's colours. The photographer must have played it with it during the development, don't you think?

@killyourfm so, before you do that, have you considered what the performance will be? I have seen this one guy who moved to his own instance and posted pictures. It was impossible to get anything older than some days. Maybe investigate that or try with a new account before you move this one.
