@skinnylatte public transport apps that can handle buses are one of the great upgrades to cities. It used to be difficult to use buses in big cities if you didn’t know the routes in advance, now you can plan them without having to carry an A-Z everywhere.

@skinnylatte a lot of autistic types seem to have something between a disregard for normal status games and a complete obliviousness to them which is protective.

@skinnylatte maybe it’s as much expectation as anything. Though I don’t think most european cities become all that uncomfortable until early-30s.

@dansup normally I wouldn’t worry too much about ancient stuff but excluding four year old browsers is a bit much: Tailwind 4 is really for environments where you can control what browsers people use (corporate internal) or don’t care (stupid government departments for example) at the moment.

@dansup “Pixelfed: for rich techies” doesn’t make a great slogan.

@skinnylatte there was one decent place in Dublin I knew of in olden days (with famously dour service) but you needed a Chinese friend to access the proper menu (and I think the dim sum) otherwise it was mostly good westernised stuff.

@skinnylatte yeah, big sigh when I see them — we’re only beginning to get (what look like to me) reasonable regional restaurants here as the immigrant populations settle in.
Mind you most of the ones advertised here as “Traditional Irish” are basically serving Irish-American food.

@skinnylatte I know *that* and I can see a proper Quiche Lorraine full of good cream or lentils (though probably as dhaal) making it onto my comfort food list, it just seems like a weird list for you to pick.

@skinnylatte there’s got to be a back story to that because I can’t imagine many French listing that as their comfort food.

@inthehands they now have too many customers for that: the compromises and constraints must be pretty limiting — and they get slated anytime they change anything.

@edgeofeurope @skinnylatte a proper cooked breakfast is perfectly sensible if you’re heading out for a day of riding, caving or hiking in British or Irish weather, believe me.

@skinnylatte sort of is. Not a lot of Europe would do that. Croissants aren’t sweet, neither is bread, cheese and meats or porridge or whatever constituted a traditional breakfast. Soda bread, butter and jam or porridge in this part of the world.
(Ok, porridge is sweet if I have to eat it because I’ve always hated the stuff and have to shovel in sugar or honey to get it down.)

@mirabilos @Reinald @thomasjwebb @cwebber apparently not. Most of the people in these threads seem never to have heard of a data centre before last year. I’ve been hosting stuff in them since 1994 at least. At that point they were mostly for telecoms gear.
Though I’ve almost never done the cloud compute thing.

@IndyRichard Ireland exists as a demonstration of what bullshit GDP is.
I mean yeah on the rest of it, but we’re massively over dependent on multinationals doing financial acrobatics to minimise tax costs.

@inthehands those things are being done by a human. Just a human using an llm. The point of the science fiction marketing is partly to obscure that.
