The NFL owners are forcing Tom Brady to choose between being a journalist and an NFL owner. If he chooses both, he will be highly restricted as a journalist (which will make the latter worthless).
I understand the conflict of interest here, but I do not think the sport's fans will approve.ESPN was the first to report that Brady won’t be allowed to watch another team’s practices or sit in on production meetings with the coaching staff, in person or virtually. That seems to be pretty standard stuff. NFL executives and coaches are some of the most paranoid people on the planet when it comes to competitive advantages — a lost playbook can cost a player up to $14,650 — and the idea of someone with a vested interest in another team having access to even the most mundane details would trigger a DEFCON 1 alert. […]The truest sign that Brady isn’t welcome as an owner, though, is the decree that he can’t criticize game officials and other clubs. […]But the job of an analyst — the good ones, at least — is to offer unvarnished assessments of what’s happening on and off the field. Fox and the other networks don’t pay guys like Brady, Romo and Aikman the big bucks just for their names. They pay them for their ability to take viewers behind the scenes, to peel the curtain back on why things on the field are happening, and to do it straightforwardly. (USA Today)I think it would be wise for Tom Brady to consider giving up the part-time owner gig (for now) and focusing on being a great analyst. Later on, he can become a part-time owner, although I have a feeling Tom Brady might try to be both and end up being bad at both in the process.
@evan@cosocial.ca Many people have more than 6 as each social network caters to a different area in their lives (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etcetera).
I do not think one social network can do everything & do it well. However, you should be able to follow every social network from a single account.
If I were to sum up Fallout on Amazon Prime it would be this quote by the character Maximus: _Everyone wants to save the world, they just…they disagree on how._I just finished binge-watching the entire season (which Amazon thankfully uploaded all at once) & I can say this whole show was a horrific feast for the eyes.
Fallout is a show that mixes humor with gore, & while some of the science fiction themes are more fantasy than science, it faithfully remains within the genre as it explores an apocalyptic alternative future history of humanity that is not kind to those without power.
I enjoyed following the adventures of all three protagonists from the show as they were each unique:
- Maximus: is a very conflicted character with something to prove to the world - Lucy: is an optimistic, albeit naive woman whose ideals clash with the harsh realities of the wasteland - Cooper Howard, also known as The Ghoul: is a hazardous, pragmatic & hideous man whose sense of humor is only exceeded by his cruelty
If you are looking for a science fiction show that mixes humor, horror & a depressing future, then Fallout might be the show for you!
This show reminded me of a mixture between Star Trek & Battlestar Galactica, albeit in Anime form. Called Heroic Age, this show features a blend of adventure, romance, action, & humor whose setting happens to take place in space.
Despite its age (pun not intended), Heroic Age seems to have a fresh approach to the anime genre, with characters that show some real depth throughout the series.
Destiny, conquest, reconciliation, betrayal, loss & genocide are significant themes in the show, & the music score is better than what you hear in many Sci-Fi Fantasy Space Drama Anime today.
No, I have not seen this movie yet (it has been on my cue list for a long time).
However, from what I gathered from the trailer, it is an evil spin on Superman, where instead of a super-powered person growing up to be good, they become evil.
Anyways, @jdfaust@threads.net (account not federating yet) asked @jamesgunn@threads.net (account also not federating yet) if there would be a Brightburn sequel.Jdfaust: “Were there ever any plans for Brightburn 2 or just no plans to move forward?” (Thread)JamesGunn: “I mean we talked about it early on. But the rights are all f🤬cked up (I only own half) so it’s unlikely that it will ever happen.” (Thread)So it appears we will not get a sequel to this movie after all due to a rights dispute. Sigh...
But after the disaster that was Matrix Resurrections, the last thing the world needs is another (probably awful) Matrix movie.
However, some studios have some cash to burn, so here we are with another Matrix movie scheduled.Drew Goddard, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of The Martian who also directed The Cabin in the Woods, has been set to write and direct a new Matrix movie at Warner Bros. The franchise's original co-scribe and co-director Lana Wachowski is executive producing. [...]"Drew came to Warner Bros with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters," said Jesse Ehrman, Warner Bros Motion Pictures President of Production. "The entire team at Warner Bros Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio." (Deadline, discovered via The Verge)Hopefully, it is not another sequel & perhaps is a side story (which would be more interesting). Or better yet, a live-action version of the Animatrix (which would be fantastic!), which could focus on how the machines conquered the planet.
They are still in the early stages of this project, so only time will tell if it is worth watching, but hopefully, it is better than Matrix 4 as that movie was 💩 🔛 🔥 ‼️
What makes this show unique is the fact it takes place at the end of a legendary adventure, as the female elf protagonist (the latter is a rarity in anime) reflects on her experiences & memories during the decade-long journey with her closest companions.
The show is about love, regret, memories, moving forward, hatred & consequences of decisions. What I enjoyed about this anime is how each character had different perspectives—even hypocritical ones—& despite their flaws, they accomplished great things.
Another item I enjoyed about Frieren is that it is not another overpowered protagonist's show. While Frieren is powerful, she is also vulnerable (mismatches are the key to victory), as the show highlights during the numerous fantasy battles.
Many other characters in the show are fantastic, too, but it is best to discover that for yourself!
Although the show appears episodic at first, there is a clear destination in mind, & it is fun to watch Frieren & her new friends attempt to trek there on her journey.
I believe it would be cool if some of the third-party developers were able to help out with the project. Also, I hope they include an in app payment feature to make it easier for donations or even for premium features (buying a T-shirt or hat with your Misskey handle on it would be cool).
What I enjoyed about this episode is that you got to see how weak the Empire had become based upon their projections of strength.
Watching a former general who fell out of grace in the eyes of the Empire (but not of the people), attempt to negotiate with powerful people was striking, especially his attitude towards the leader who had caused him so much suffering.
However what shocked me was the ending of the episode which surprisingly displayed some...humanity (that is the only hint you get!
However, I am glad that they are embracing the basics of ActivityPub. I do suspect Threads development will be outpaced by Misskey, rebranded Calckey, & future Mastodon for at least a year.
Threads by Instagram will launch on July 6th (thanks for the heads up @dansup@mastodon.social!) & I noticed Meta collects a lot of data. So much data!
Threads is rumored to adopt ActivityPub later on (in October maybe‽ We will see), but when it joins the Fediverse (if not on launch day), it’s data collection policies will make it easier to convince some (but not all) to migrate over to Misskey, Pixelfed, Mastodon & Pleroma.
Note: Uploading on Misskey as my Mastodon account @darnell@one.darnell.one is being fixed server side right now.
@atomicpoet@calckey.social Meta / Faceboook for all their flaws has an uncanny ability of seeing whether the “puck is going,” that is where the Socialverse is heading towards.
It’s why they bought out WhatsApp & Instagram, & it’s also why they mimick Snapchat & TikTok.
The fact that they chose ActivityPub over AT Protocol (a no brainer if you ask me) is not due to copyright reasons or lacking technical skill, it’s because of all the centralized platforms around (there are many!), they saw the Socialverse embracing the Fediverse in the not so distant future, so they are skating to where the puck is going.
I believe the reason they are launching a separate product is to test out the waters before integrating Facebook & Instagram into the Fediverse. Meta would not commit resources towards Barcelona/P92 in the midst of layoffs if they did not view the Fediverse as a credible threat.
I believe the primary reason they are launching now is because numerous companies & platforms will be entering the Fediverse, & Meta is scared of the potential threat to their business. Automattic (company behind WordPress, Tumblr, BuddyPress, etcetera) alone can threaten their future dominance of the Fediverse.
Meta is scared right now (as they should be), but they are preparing to enter the Fediverse out of fear they could lose against it as nothing is guaranteed.
@atomicpoet@calckey.social I think Calckey changing the name is a good thing, as it will also potentially avoid any legal fights with the calculator app on the App Store (as well as Google Play) for future apps.
While I have my doubts about Instagram’s intentions, I think their entrance will encourage mass adoption of ActivityPub, & we will probably see more people (especially celebrities) opt to host their own content while interacting with Instagram’s version. We will probably witness celebrities & academics move away from Twitter then.
Elon also is desperate to recoup some of the money he foolishly spent on the platform.
According to FediDB it seems as if Misskey has surpassed Peertube to become the 2nd most popular Fediverse software option available (this does not include variants or forks).
Note: I support both of these projects at $10 & $8 per month, respectively, & I encourage people to support their favorite instance software by donating at least a $1 USD per month.
@Sujiyan@mstdn.jp That’s what Google Translate is for! 👍🏾 I usually copy, select & translate within the MissRirica app, but it would be cool if there was an auto translate feature within the app. Similar to what @ivory@tapbots.social has with Mastodon.
I wonder if I can submit a premium feature request to @fruitriin@misskey.io about this‽ Hmm..
It’s not the moral short comings of the main characters that makes “In The Pale Moonlight” one of my favorite episdoes.
It’s the fact that Captain Sisko sacrificed his integrity in the name of the “greater good,” only to have it blow up in his face—only to realize later on that the scoundrel he hired used evil means to ensure the plan succeeded.
Basically it’s an episode about hard decision, & while I deplore his actions, it demonstrates that we have to be willing to bear the consequences of our choices.
