This includes not placing the burden of building and protecting the community on members of marginalized groups that are being mistreated. Are there ways as an end user (beyond reading the server rules) for me to evaluate the quality of moderation of an instance? I'm new and building my fediverse toolkit.

@lauren The article refers to Mastodon as a "site" founded by Eugen Rochko and implies that it could be purchased. I'm trying to come up with a more accurate framing, but it's way out of my lane, so forgive the finger painting... Mastodon is an open-source project written and maintained by Eugen. VC's are offering to fund a for-profit company that might charge for services around the open-source tools of the Fediverse kind of like Red Hat or Canonical. Am I close? (And Rochko says no, anyway.)
