     v. true, and Stallman's history is instructive on this point, HOWEVER

     in the end the only person paranoid enough, after all, was Stallman

     and yet, not paranoid enough :-(
     we're all being pushed towards extremes with very negative consequences, and though most people seem to be too distracted to mind the trap they're being led into, I'm happy we have some resistance, and also to be part of it

     These issues track closely with the history of #Linux #gnu the #freesoftware movement and the efforts of Richard Stallman and others to protect #freedom of #information

     @lauren The article refers to Mastodon as a "site" founded by Eugen Rochko and implies that it could be purchased. I'm trying to come up with a more accurate framing, but it's way out of my lane, so forgive the finger painting... Mastodon is an open-source project written and maintained by Eugen. VC's are offering to fund a for-profit company that might charge for services around the open-source tools of the Fediverse kind of like Red Hat or Canonical. Am I close? (And Rochko says no, anyway.)
