I'm trying to come up with a more accurate framing, but it's way out of my lane, so forgive the finger painting... Mastodon is an open-source project written and maintained by Eugen. VC's are offering to fund a for-profit company that might charge for services around the open-source tools of the Fediverse kind of like Red Hat or Canonical. Am I close? (And Rochko says no, anyway.)
