@tokyo_0 I get it, but Mastodon is going to be server by server. There isn't a central way to do this nor should there be. It should be up to each admin.

@tokyo_0 I get that, but the only way to stop it is to have your admin block it. This is the same thing with Meta too.

@tokyo_0 I don't really see what the issue is here. This is literally how all the other instances of Mastodon work. They vacuum up your posts so the people that follow you there can see it. If it's really a problem you can ask your instance's admin block them.

Not a word tonight about decades of #JohnnyKitagawa blowing fat ropes in the mouths and rectums of young boys dreaming to become idols. It’s basically an essential part of J-POP culture. Why leave it out? #紅白2023 #紅白 #kohaku #kouhaku #kohaku2023

@tokyo_0 The majority never will, but there is enough of us that will. Look at Mastodon now. These are all people that are sick of the bullshit. The casuals aren't even here yet.

@tokyo_0 If they give up control then I imagine an independent version will appear. The code needs to stay open so everyone can review it. The minute it goes closed, that version is toxic.

I think it's important to keep expectations for the fediverse taking over in check. I think it will remain independent with most of the current instances staying around. An explosion of instances during period by the casuals will mean they will chose the wrong side. We'll be fine though.

@tokyo_0 If people are too dumb to leave threads, and threads forks ActiveityPub, then bye-bye to them. We will be fine. Any Mastodon instance worth their salt will stay on our side of things. It's a non-issue.

@tokyo_0 I don't know how much you know about Bitcoin, but the fear at first was the same thing. The governments would come along and pretend to play along or some major bank etc. They would try to influence the code updates to the blockchain and would eventually take it over. Being that Bitcoin is open source everyone can review the code. If most of the miners don't adopt then it's a failed update. If around only 50% adopt, then there is a fork and that new version becomes it's own thing.

@tokyo_0 You know how you get around that? Stop catering to the "but my feelings..." crowd. Don't let Meta control development. They either stay on the same page as the fediverse, or they create a fork that leaves them by themselves. If most of the fediverse users are on Threads, then so be it. Let Meta decide to fork away, but we never put them in control of development. They can adapt or fork. Never bend to them....

@tokyo_0 That's fine. Time will tell, but how can they take any of this away if you aren't on a core instance? Where is the worry other than blind fear? I haven't seen any examples given anywhere.

@tokyo_0 Meta isn't going to be able to take this place over by design. It's decentralized and the software is open source. Even if all the core Mastodon servers went down because Meta bought them, Famichiki and the likes would stay up. Surely a group would work on the code and to bring security updates as they arise and quality of life upgrades too. There is nothing Meta can do to take this down.

@tokyo_0 I get that, but there are a lot of people calling for every instance to defederate with Threads or they will also be added to their instance of defederated instances. I'm just sick of everything having to be polarizing toxic bullshit.

They need to "git gud" then. If you got time to post on here, you got time to learn.

Yeah they do, but they aren't taking it with them when they migrate. All their followers will still see their post unless the new instance defederates.

@tokyo_0 It's not that. It's that outragey tone of that they feel they are taking anything of value away as punishment to the instance they are currently on when it just means the other server will be federated with them unless the new one wants to cut off the nose to spite the face and that's fine too.

We aren't on the same instance and we are having this conversation. See my point?

@tokyo_0 I don't think so, because it comes down to if you don't like what is happening where you already are. Just go somewhere else or make a new place that is exactly what you want. How is that impossible?

@tokyo_0 It was a broad statement. Then just create a new instance and migrate there. There are a lot of people bent out of shape over this, but I don't understand why they just don't make their own instance. Again, be the change...

@tokyo_0 Mastodon is open source, so if the feature doesn't exist, just add it yourself.

The whole point of this is creating communities that meets what you want, so if it doesn't just create your own, set it up and add features you like, migrate your account there.
