Mari wanted sweaty Famichikers and other Mastodoners to known she's doing good and gave explicit permission for this picture. We are approaching the 1st anniversary of the darkest months of her encephalitis. Tomorrow is the next checkup. Over 6 months since last hospitalization. Can't seem to quit meds as much as we'd like, but doing good otherwise.
"But doing something like this requires you to take for granted that other people are smart, that smart people have always existed, and that very little in the human experience is new. That requires, you know, intellectual humility — and a willingness to think about other people’s experiences."
@pippa Oh shit yeah my cousins found a rifle cartridge outside. The older cousin wanted to remove the bullet from the cartridge and pour out the powder to make it safe. I thought that was a REALLY BAD IDEA. So I stepped out of the room, and BANG, the fucking thing exploded and sent both of them to the hospital.
@pippa I don't think he's experienced even like a tenth of the trauma I did at his age. He's never had stitches. Never been hit by a car. Never flown over the handlebars of his bike. Never sliced part of his finger nearly off. The 80s were magical 🥰
@pippa He did get seen by a GP last night after orthopedic clinic fiascos, and that doctor didn't think it was a go immediately to the hospital-level emergency. But he was in a good deal of pain this morning.
(The older parts of my neighborhood look very much like this neighborhood. Redeveloped parts though, like my street, have wider streets and houses built with fire-resistant siding.)
"In summary, a toxic man got a taste of what he deserved today and instead of being civil, now he has to deal with his hung gay neighbor being around his wife more often now that we are officially friends."
