@randahl @darnell @anderspuck @EUCommission The difference is size. Mastodon doesn’t have a dominant position like Meta and Google. While GDPR apply to everyone, DMA only does to the very largest players.

But on suspicion of crime I think it’s reasonable that the police can temporarily confiscate stuff, even cash, while investigating.

No bank or financial institution could accept a deposit of even a fraction of this amount of cash without solid evidence it was legally obtained.

But accepting large amounts of “anonymous” cash could lead to them being accused of assisting in money laundering. 2) I agree. But in general it’s reasonable the police can temporarily confiscate any excessively large stacks of cash until the owner provides sufficient prominence and a reasonable explanation why he has all that money in cash.

The same cannot be said about the Netanyahu government. Israel is being destroyed from within, and quickly becoming a pariah internationally. It’s sad to watch.

Regardless we don’t have to give Facebook exclusiveness to the term. In the metaverse one can by definition move seamlessly between systems, sites, apps, worlds and whatnot. It’s the exact opposite of a corporate monoculture like Zuckerberg’s. No offense (loved the article) I just resent that lose “metaverse” to bloody Facebook.

Den Spier :europe: (denspier@mastodon.green)'s status on Friday, 30-Dec-2022 23:13:50 JST Den Spier :europe: @darnell @pixelfed @dansup Instagram and Facebook are part of Meta, not “the metaverse”, that term was defined and in use long before Zuckerberg started using it. The term “metaverse” is worth fighting for, we cannot and should not grant him exclusiveness to it. If Zuckerberg names a company “Fedi” he shouldn’t be able to claim “fediverse” as his. Language and terminology matters.

Whatever Zuckerberg may claim, “the metaverse” by definition is the opposite to monopoly platform monocultures.
