This was pre “Time Machine” (a built-in backup software on macOS) and it was common to give a talk and ask how many people were backing up and see 1 person in 10 raise their hands - and that was on a GOOD day. 😂

I once met one of the founders of one of the early data recovery services (I don’t remember which one it was or if they’re even still around) and

he mentioned that he drove a supercar and said he mentioned that all the time to remind people they should definitely back up their computers, because it was cheaper than buying him another Ferrari.

@BethanyBlack If it makes you feel any better, in the last 24 hours I’ve had someone both challenge my age (Mastodon) and how long been using Linux, the operating system (BlueSky)

And yes I know, you’d think that the social networks that this happened on would be reversed. 😂

I’m WAY too small an account (both here and even more so on BS) to personally get these issues. But I see a lot of posts on these issues on BS now.
The big issue is that people need to stop treating this like it’s a sport: “my team” v “your team”

I think about billionaires a lot (kinda my job?) so let me say this:
Most every billionaire on the planet would happily kill you for an extra few points on their investment. This isn't theoretical, it literally happens. They literally make decisions they know will kill people.

So if this new fiasco with #Tweetdeck hasn’t made it clear; Twitter is gonna be a pay-only service for anything beyond basic functionality as soon as Musk finishes breaking enough stuff.

Ironically, I would’ve been willing to pay money for Twitter if he’d cleared out the racists, the homophobes, trollbots etc, but I sure as FUCK wouldn’t pay for it now.
