Those who are using the Trump cult to accrue power are laying the foundation, not Trump himself. Steven Miller, Netanyahu, Putin, JD Vance, Mike Johnson...people like that. Trump himself is a demented moron who couldn't lay the groundwork for a picnic blanket.

Mental gymnastics?! Trump can no more do mental gymnastics than he can do actual gymnastics.

Ha! I worked briefly with her incompetent brother about 40 years ago. She was our US Representative back when, but she changed districts to one even more MAGA friendly north of here last election. I've said for years she was the stupidest person in Congress, and only the arrival of Lauren Boebert and Empty Greene has forced me to rethink this a bit. The competition is fierce.

Sinc3 the debate, I have stopped watching anything on TV except low budget mysteries on the Hallmark Mysteries channel, Doc Martin, Murdock Mysteries, and Death in Paradise on Ovation, and Poirot and Sherlock Holmes on Roku, plus the occasional 2 star comedy or mystery on TCM. I'll vote my regular straight Dem ticket come Nov.
I'll continue to read mastodon, The Guardian, and Texas Observer, but I don't even read linked articles in the NYT or Huffpost anymore.

Not just the military, but DoD contractor corporations' buildings ( Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, Rockwell Int., as well as DoD civilian installations, like Rome Lab, the Navy Yard, the National Security Agency, etc. It's like having the Pentagon having piping Tokyo Rose into the hallways, TASS broadcasts during the Cold War, or Baghdad Bob when we were invading Iraq. It's psychopathic.

The Herod stories are the ones that truly label the NT as fiction. First, the underlying reason for Mary and Joseph being in Bethlehem at all was to pay taxes, showing that the authors knew nothing about the procedures Romans used to collect taxes. Second, why in the world would Joseph take his late term pregnant wife with him - riding on a donkey!? It's interesting to note that Mary doesn't become a virgin for another 3 hundred years.

The NT authors tell us that Herod was killing first born Jewish sons to preempt a Messiah from dethroning him, retelling the Ramses legend and Passover. Besides the fact that the Jews themselves do not remember this - and they do remember stuff like this - the Romans didn't either. Romans were real bean counters, and they would have kept records of both Herod's edict and how many Jews they killed, day by day. They don't exist.

I generally bring up Sherlock Holmes as a comparison, and now that the copyrights have expired, there are new Sherlock Holmes stories by new authors popping up, just like the NT. I recall that Sherlock was modeled on a French police detective familiar to Conan Doyle, so something similar could have taken place with Yeshua. In any case, the NT is definitely fiction: The Further Adventures of Jesus Christ, Superstar.

I seem to have overstated my sorrows. 8^) I appreciate the sympathy and you seem to have a good heart, but I was a popular kid, made excellent grades, excelled at sports, had loving parents, and lived a carefree childhood. Cue Leave it to Beaver. I didn't realize I was a monster until the 1960s when Gloria Steinem made it clear that being a gentleman was no longer acceptable behavior, that giving one's seat to a woman on a bus was an insult.

"Gloria Marie Steinem is an American journalist and social-political activist who emerged as a nationally recognized leader of second-wave feminism in the United States in the *late 1960s* and early 1970s" - wiki
I felt bitter about the feminist movement, actually. Totally took me out of the competition. Occasionally a girl would find me interesting, take me and seduce me, but not often. Women were completely in charge of relationships now.

@Radical_EgoCom @FinalOverdrive @siderea @Marshie I'm 80 now, so it doesn't really matter anymore. I found my Truly Fair in 1981 and she and I are still together, but I do have sympathy for the incels. I was just giving a retrospect on how the feminist movement affected me. Didn't mean to sound whiny about it. The social backlash was to turn most US men into macho assholes. Macho assholery seems to be the most successful "straight" strategy in the US now. Trump is a role model.

Well...there was a social stigma attached to being a "wolf" or forcing yourself on women or being rude and crude. It even shows up in Looney Tunes and Popeye's Bluto was not a role model. Today, that sort of behavior is not unusual or as severely condemned it seems. The number of forcible rapes rose dramatically in the 70s and 80s and remains much higher than in the 1960s. It may or may not be related to feminism. I don't know. Seems suspicious.

Only among liberals. The Deplorables *do not care* that Trump raped E. Jean Carroll, nor do they care that 24 women have accused him of sexual assault and rape, nor about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and child rape. The GOP ranks are bloated with sexual offenders, while sexual assault by the police and prison guards is rarely prosecuted. Forcible rape going from 9.6/100K in 1960 to 42.8/100K is NOT a simple reporting anomaly.

It didn't happen as much back then. The "sexual revolution" of the 60s and 70s changed all that. The pill is what really changed the game, because now women could pull one night stands without worrying about getting pregnant. In the 1950s, women DID worry about getting pregnant. Sexual interludes did not reach the rape stage as frequently, where things got out of hand. The opportunities for rape were far fewer.
