If you say that you can't understand something, then I guess I just have to take your word that you don't understand.

However that is, you're just going to have to get comfortable with an enormous number of people not agreeing with you.

So your argument is that conventionally masculine cisgendered males should not be offended by the term "mysogynistic MANOsphere" because it is in common circulation?

I bet you anything somebody said something like that about the N-word in the 1960s.

    @gwensnyder

Could you clarify here? Are you saying that all conventionally masculine cisgender males are actual Nazis or at the very least fellow travelers?

Because it seems that permanently alienating at least 50% of the 90% of the population that are heteronormative is not an election-winning strategy.

That's the thing that defines democracies, you know: Elections.

Just to be clear: You question my "good faith"--but is not "misogynistic MANosphere" a pretty loaded term?

Of course it is. That's the way clickbait works.

Eh. What does this really accomplish? It valorizes him in some people's eyes, and gives the wrong impression of Ukraine to other people. Politics via assassination is more a Russian thing, and the whole point is to resist Russia.

      List of undated Roman consuls
This is a list of Roman consuls, individuals who were either elected or nominated to the highest elected political office of the Roman Republic, or a high office of the Empire, but for whom an exact date of when they served in office is absent. Most are reckoned to be suffect consuls, but occasionally it encompasses an ordinary consul. 3rd century BC 1st century AD 2nd century 3rd century 4th century Footnotes References Sources Alföldy, Géza Konsulat und Senatorenstand unter der Antoninen Bonn: Rudolf Habelt Verlag (1977) Jones, A. Jesus was allegedly a carpenter. Think about that.

But also, look at that list more closely. It does indeed list dates in the 3rd and 4th decades of the 1st century C.E. You shot a little wide of the mark.

Well, here's my take: Atheism is not an unreasonable position in and of itself. There are lots of good arguments for it. But selectively misapplying standards of historical attestation is not one of them.

Nobody is challenging the historicity of these men's consulships just because the available evidence is not unambiguously contemporary instead of just ambiguously near-contemporary.

I mean: carpenter vs aristocrat. Who leaves more records?

You know, re-education camps have not traditionally been viewed as promoting democracy.

I think a whole lot of people really need to stop, look at themselves in the mirror, and ask them selves, really, deeply, truly, just what their real project is here.

@lain I think this is become a more general trend--Bai Lan, The Great Resignation. There are measurable effects--Sinema has effectively been forced out of the Democratic Party. Small measurable effects that may eventually be reversed, but success is never guaranteed in any ambitious project.

@lain I haven't voted for years as exactly this type of abstentionist strategy. It's a small act of protest.

I can't worry about when exactly it will have an impact, but it definitely will have an impact, even if it is acceleration towards a totalitarian crisis.

@lain Electoral abstention is a legitimate political strategy when trying to force the hand of an entrenched establishment. If done mindfully, it's still a type of participation because it is expected or hoped to have a practical effect, even if not in the short term.

But to pretend you can fly off to Oz and ignore the consequences is delusion.

It's the difference between consciously accepting the steep price of a desperate action (or inaction) and the self delusion that choices don't matter.

@lain You do get to opt out of participating in government.

You don't get to opt out of being governed.

    So faulty analogy.
