Hm. I guess Richard Strauss is also public domain? (though having this be only a few years after 2001:ASO seems extra-special lame/asking-for-trouble...)

So, who does the best laptops these days?
(realizing I haven't bought computer hardware for 5 years now, contending with dying laptop battery on my broken HP, + with Frys out of business there aren't good stores for going and playing with shit anymore)
notes:
(1) Windows/Linux only;
*NO* Apple, sorry (*)(2) Just need performance for software work and largest possible screen.
(3) I'm NOT a gamer; if it can show movies, that's good enough.
(4) Officially tired of HP (3 consecutive laptops with hinges that broke in the first 6 months), *was* really great at HW reliability but should never have been allowed to write software (read sick of bundled crap that doesn't work). Also remain annoyed at SONY for discontinuing the VAIO.

Also? Spend a few months in the bowels of Autoconf + M4 and I guarantee you'll stop complaining about Perl...

so...
he was going to drive her to the end of I-110, and then *sit* in a line of cars waiting to get into Mexico, with a fuckton of *armed* border patrol guards RIGHT THERE inspecting vehicles and asking for passports.
Yeah, this makes perfect sense as a kidnapping plot.
How much do we want to bet this person has literally *never* been through a international border crossing before?

Evidence for *what*?
If ChatGPT is acting as a witness of some kind, on what basis would it be deemed competent? (we already have rules for expert witnesses. I'm already finding it hard to imagine that something for which we can't say what algorithm it's actually using and is already known to readily produce bullshit and lies will ever be considered admissible)

Re chatbot evidence at trial:
This is not a new issue. Photoshop has existed for a while and courts have learned to cope (chain of custody now matters a *lot* more for photographic evidence)

Rather a lot depends on definitions. Do we start with the current DNS (1985, when .com/.org/.edu/.net got rolled out) Or adoption of IPv4?
My brother got his first Arpanet account in 1978; mine was 1984. I sent my first email in 1982 but it was via UUCP.
