    @RL_Dane @dexter I think they're talking about the energy usage of running the already compiled code, which is somewhat fair, but decidedly not the whole picture.

    @silverwizard You'd think there would be some sort of checksum in the signal or something to prevent this. CRC is not computationally expensive at all.

    Our TV has a wonky HDMI port. When the cable gets bumped the picture on the screen goes to high-res static. This is not the behaviour I would expect from a digital signal.

    Can anyone recommend a #RasPi alternative for #embedded #electronics projects? There's the #Arduino, which is nice, but sometimes you need something with a little more oomph.

    Can anyone in Waterloo region recommend a place (such as a coffee shop) where one can just sit down with a book for a while? I don't mind if I have to buy a coffee or something. Just looking for a change of scenery.

    There's always the library, but the nearest one to me is in a high school, and I feel weird about loitering around there.

    @silverwizard Writers are fairly trivial, readers are just complicated enough (due to the wildly differing possible formats) that it was just easier to find something existing that did the job than it was to reinvent the wheel.

    @silverwizard I've been happy-ish with Friendica as an RSS reader. I generally understand not wanting to have something as a web app, though for a thing meant to link me to web pages, I can live with it. It'd be nice to be able to get a nice summary in the terminal, though. I thought about writing my own RSS reader back in the day, but it turns out that "really simple syndication" is not exactly "simple".

    Unihertz are GPL violators and have been ignoring kernel source code requests sent by multiple people. Coincidentally, this heavily limits the possibilities for alternative OS projects for this device.

    I've been wondering what to replace my current phone with when it finally gives up the ghost. Ideally, what I'd like is a handheld ARM-based Linux machine that happens to also work as a phone (sans Android). Do they make anything like that?
