I got the computer I'm currently using as my daily driver from my brother-in-law for the price of a new SSD. The company he works for had deemed it "obsolete" and was upgrading. I just run reasonable software in it and it's fine.
@hypolite Yeah. For me, it was originally the fact that it could talk both ActivityPub and Diaspora*. I discovered the RSS thing later. BTW, are there any plans to add support for bluesky?
@hypolite@heluecht Cool. I haven't really been able to be bothered to look into bluesky because it doesn't seem to offer anything new, but if I could interact with it from here, I might actually pay more attention... so I'll play with that when it's out.
@hypolite This is the fediverse's killer feature. I have everything in one place, regardless of where it's hosted. Friendica makes this even better with its RSS support.
@VE2UWY Yes, but the difference is that you don't have to sign up with that instance to engage with its users. Likewise, you can migrate to another instance if you disagree with the policies of your current one.
It's not a bulletproof system, but it's far more resistant to that kind of nonsense.
@silverwizard You mentioned before that you'd tuned your Friendica database to prune old posts to keep it responsive. Mine's getting pretty laggy at times. How did you do this?
@silverwizard If so, that's a little infuriating. I used it successfully during a VMedia DNS outage (and kept it that way afterwards) but I've never used it with Primus before.
