@evan I'm not sure what mechanism you're proposing to prevent them from running. But I don't think I'd be in favour of it.
I definitely think nobody should vote for them.
Voters have been making some terrible decisions lately, tho.

@silverwizard (Come to think of it, we should probably figure out some sort of escrow...)
@silverwizard Man, I don't even have my wife's private keys. That's some intimacy.
@lanodan (Although with Instagram especially, it might be easier to justify "I'm screenshotting to comment on your copyrighted photo, as permitted by fair use" versus "I'm infringing on your copyright." IANAL. Canadian fair dealing is less forgiving. Fair use is a defense in a lawsuit, not an inherent right).
@lanodan Sure. If you copy any photos.
Current pet peeve: Bloggers/news articles that continue to embed (or even just link) Instragram and X posts now that logging in is required for those to work.
Is screenshotting on Windows/Mac still a pain in the butt these days? Screenshots are all over X and Instragram ironically. So fair's fair, I say. Please screenshot in blog posts. Linking is fine, I guess, with a screenshot, but embedding is utterly useless these days.
@silverwizard Ah, those were the days...
@gamingonlinux Who, in 2013, would have predicted that GamerGate was the beginning of the end of Western civilization.

Wow, really? Didn't they tell him? This should be disqualifying (but I suspsect it won't be).

@silverwizard @me That is a much more sensible approach, yes.
@silverwizard @me (Come to think of it, I gave up on it right before my wedding. That'll do it...)
@silverwizard @me I was writing it from scratch in python. Which was my first mistake. Also, this was a decade ago.
@silverwizard @me @henry For me, it was writing a central podcast server that could continue to listen to my podcast from a variety of devices. Which is something I'm pretty sure still doesn't exist. But it turns out I can just use my phone and it's fine.
@silverwizard @me @henry Sure, but there's a lot of broken-ass RSS/Atom out there. Is it hard to make it fault tolerant enough to get what you need? Probably not. Is this really what I want to spend my limited time on earth futzing with? No, it turns out.
New Year; New Bullets. 2025.
A blog post about this year and last year.

@arielkroon lol at someone mapping garlic mustard.
Man, I could spend months just marking serviceberry bushes around town and not run out.
@evan Who's 'we' and what organizations and what sort of focus?
I think we need standards bodies and fediverse developers focused on building out feature functionality and ensuring fedi continues to grow in a more inclusive and welcoming direction.
I'd *like* govenments, non-profits and businesses to consider having a presence here as crucial to their independence and their mission, but I don't think I *need* them here.

@danbrotherston I remember this podcast where @pluralistic mentioned putting aluminum smelters next to wind farms to suck up excess energy on windy days, but he talks about way more than that... https://fullycharged.show/podcasts/podcast-84-the-future-of-energy-over-the-next-300-years-cory-doctorow/
