At today's @fossandcrafts Hack & Craft I'll be working on pants!
So far I've made a bunch of pajama pants, a pair light denim jeans, and a pair of courdoroy pants. But I'm still not happy about my winter wardrobe selection so I'm testing the limits of what I can do on my non-industrial machines. I've got a heavier weight denim, a twill, and a cotton duck cloth.
I also love this photo and it is a very Christine photo, including how Jessica is the exact distance and tilt away from Christine to avoid those excited hand gestures.
👋 I'm a woman with a PhD, but the degree itself in Art History, not a STEM field.
~However~ It's an interdisciplinary PhD in Art and Archaeology, so I got the science-y bits of Archaeology. I'm also the co-host of a tech podcast about "Free Software, Free Culture, and making things together" (@fossandcrafts )
I mean, since @cwebber has been unofficially dubbed "The Queen of the Fediverse" you could go with "Her Majesty" ... but other than that her name works just fine ;)
At today's @fossandcrafts Hack & Craft, I'll be working on making pants. I've got a pair of leggings that just need the waistband and hems done, a pair of pajama pants that are cut out and ready to sew, and I'm hoping to get a pair of corduroy slacks drafted and cut out before H&C starts!
We're also *driving* home for the holidays. It's a 16-18 hour drive, but it reduces the amount of exposure we have compared to flying. (Plus then we've got our car on us so we can get between families once we're there, and I need to travel with my own sheets so it's easier to bring more stuff in a car)
We had a bidet installed (as part of a bathroom remodel) in December of 2019 out of sheer luck. (We also accidentally had a hoard of toilet paper because we hosted a mini-conference at our house in December of 2019 and I bought the amount of toilet paper we needed for that, then @cwebber decided it wasn't enough and bout an extra 3x that amount ... between that and the bidet we didn't need to buy toilet paper until close to 2022)
And note: This river is separated from our house (and our neighbors ... with their small children ...) by one narrow service road. So the cop went to all of that effort to move the rabid raccoon about fifteen feet.
At today's @fossandcrafts Hack & Craft I'll be working on making clothes!
Pictured: me wearing 100% clothing I made (the shirt, pants, and underwear [not visible] I made last weekend, the socks and bra I had already. Since I apparently have to make all of my wardrobe now, I've got a pretty solid pattern for this variation on a tunic-style tee-shirt and can knock one out in a bit over an hour!
I'll probably be writing up a Free Soft Wear pattern for the shirt pattern soon ... once I've got enough safe clothes to get me through a week without having to wash stuff.
I've got it down so that starting with 2.5 yards of 100% cotton jersey I can get 4 pairs of underwear out of the 'scraps' from the shirt (roughly size women's XXL)
So, #introduction post since I've just created a new account!
I'm Morgan Lemmer-Webber, I'm interested in the social history of women and textile production in the Roman Empire.
I do most imaginable textile crafts. Right now I'm making a lot of clothes due to an allergy to synthetic fabrics. Expect lots of posts about making socks and other garments.
